First family car (2nd car )

Looking for a new car as wife due back to work in a few month currently on maternity. Currently got a 3 door Ford Fiesta which has been a great reliable car .

New car needs

5 door
Decent boot
Petrol only do roughly 6k a year
Reliable
10k budget

What’s everyone’s suggestions???

So many things fit the criteria. For the main car / run around having had new leases and company cars but now a little one we have a W246 Merc B Class. Not as big as an MPV but basically a big hatch. Fits a pram/travel system thing with space to squeeze in some shopping bags. The boot is usefully some 100 litres or circa 25% bigger than most other hatches.

Pug 308 - will look them up

Ford Focus a like but are the ecoboost engines not really bad and full of problems?

Mazda 3 a really do like is the boot decent ?

Also thinking about Honda Civic ??

Click the specification then dimensions links to see the boot size. We had a Seat Arona which has a 400 litre boot but only just fit a bugaboo pram in it and nothing else. Most of the other regular hatches listed already have a boot less than 400 litres.

If you want a big boot this is a snip over £10k and has a 488 litre boot

No problems with the 1.5T it's a well proven reliable (you're thinking of the early issues on the 1.0T) unit & the Focus really is the pick.

Second would be the 308 in GT spec biggest boot in class & a spacious interior too:

Third would be the Kia Ceed GT for the engine chassis & interior & the Q30 (it's an A Class without the badge) for the interior which is a step above everything listed.

Brilliant so the 1.5 ecoboost doesn’t have they problems? Does the 1.0 ecoboost still have the problems? Would happily get another ford my current car has been great.

Will look at the 308 never had a Peugeot always thought they weren’t that reliable.

Any good or bad on the Mazda 3 or Honda Civic ?

No issues on either engine now, just check that any 1.0T wasn't part of/has had the recall work carried out but you shouldn't be buying a car that was affected as I said it was early cars.

French cars are as reliable as any Ford/VAG etc so take a look.

These were our exact criteria last year, except 10k a year. We bought a Nissan Leaf for £9k.

Second shout for the B class we have B200 so with the 1.6 150bhp Merc unit. Not sluggish at all and massive boot like stated by others.
Also a nice drive, sounds a bit fruity and I think like stated can be had around your budget.
Not the B200 higher bhp as I can’t see any on AT at the moment. We were lucky indeed.

Forgot to say the Mazda3 & Civic are both decent cars but the others imo are better all rounders.

Just to say, I've been obsessed with boot sizes recently (looking for a new family car for the missus) and AutoTrader can be quite inaccurate unfortunately. Better off checking Parkers.

Or just Google car type plus boot size and there will be plenty of hits including the manufacturer website.
