Bad smell from 4.0 engine (GTS4.0/GT4/Spyder)

My GTS4.0 smells of hot oil - and its getting worse. I know all Porsche mid and rear engined cars can smell a bit hot after a drive, and my car is no exception. My previous 987.2 used to smell sometimes.

But my car has now got a lot worse, I can smell it whenever I drive with the top down. It's a lot more noticeable when coming to a stop and say a function or going slowly. The smell is definitely that of hot oil. My car has done 4800 miles, and it was run in properly.

Any ideas of what it might be? I've booked it in next week, but any ideas of what it might be, has anyone had this problem and cured it?

Are you sure it's not just winter crud on the exhaust?

That's all I smell from mine this time of year.

My old cayman had a mechanical/burning smell to it and so does my GT4. Have heard it’s normal but it does smell like somethings on fire

My 718 Spyder has a very characteristic hot smell from the exhaust area whenever I stop and sometimes while I am driving along. To me it smells like hot bread in the Aga, but it does have an oily tang. It’s so noticeable that a complete randomer stopped in a car park the other day and asked me if there was something wrong with it
I wondered if it was to do with the GPF’s? It’s done it from new, never got worse or better. It is more noticeable if I have been pressing on rather than just pootling along.
I think it’s just a “feature”.

I haven't sat in your car so it's definitely not coming from me. Only my wife needs to put up with my smell at home.

Mine is the same - I'm only 500 miles in but it smells like it has had a workout even when it hasn't - sounds similar to yours and others. I wondered if it would go away over time but had planned to mention it to my OPC in any case.
