Anyone got one of these?
Love the look of them and am tempted by one.
Do you think being a smartwatch it'll become outdated quickly?...

Just reviving this thread as i bought an Apple Watch Series 6 before Xmas and have found it utterly underwhelming.
Some of the funcionailty is useful, but i underestimated how much i'd miss the size and feel of a decent brand on my wrist.

TAG looks like a good compromise. Some of the functionality you get with the Apple, but feeling less like an iSheep.

There's an upcoming model I take it? Tag seemed to imply April (ish)

IMO this only makes sense if the price tag is an insignificant amount of money to you, because the new version is always going to be on its way.

You should also consider that now Google has purchased Fitbit there's a very good chance Wear OS will finally be put to rest. It's not going to happen overnight, but I'd reluctant to spend c£1500 on a watch where the OS may have limited updates.

This.

As with all tech, the watch will date quickly, and the battery will start to degrade as well. I read that the old TAG Connected would begin to lose battery performance after around 500 charge cycles, so expect to see shorter battery life at around 2 years old.

The battery on the new Connected model lasts ‘a day’ according to TAG, and many owners of the previous model found it to be flat by 9 or 10pm, which to me would be classed as less than useless. You would hope they had improved it for the new model.

So essentially, you’ll be paying £1600-2000 for something that you will probably be looking to get rid of in 2 years time.

As said above, it’s that is an insignificant amount to you, then go for it.

I’ve never really bothered with anything but cheap smartwatches for the reasons above, and also the fact that I get bored of wearing them quite quickly and miss wearing a mechanical watch.

I love tech and gadgets, but I’ve just never really got excited about smartwatches. Some people love them though, and I can understand why, but they just aren’t for me.

After spending ages justifying one to myself, I finally bought an AppleWatch (4, I think) having come up with a use case.

6 months later it is a glorified sleep tracker.

I originally planned to get a Tag Connected - but it has even less functionality plus I'd be unwilling to wear it in bed or out doing acivities - meaning I'd always end up defaulting to my Tag Calibre.

I'm the opposite. Given I don't really go anywhere these days and I like the Apple Watch for keeping an eye on my exercise regime I couldn't tell you the last time a Rolex, AP or Patek adorned my wrist, possibly when we went for a meal for our Anniversary in August.

The smart strap seems a far better compromise for me, I know there's a Sony one, basically have the battery and sensor gubbins in a stainless bracelet, a tiny display on the clasp if necessary and ultimately just bluetooth the info to an app on your phone.

That way you can still do the heartrate / sleep tracking which seems the only actual benefit over a phone whilst not wearing a power rangers command console on your arm.

Unless they can fit a little rotor and get the power consumption low enough to make it an 'automatic' sensor band then I'd still not be interested really, charging a watch just feels ridiculous, and given I wear my watches 24 hours a day just isn't for me.

Is this anything but sheer speculation?
Having used both fitbit and wear OS, I'd say it would go the other way around, Wear OS is a much completer "smartwatch" OS as opposed to the fitness-oriented fitbit.

It would be like ditching android after purchasing Nokia.

I've been keeping an eye on the Sony Wena, as I find it very interesting.

They have just released (or are about to release) the Wena 3, which adds a 'proper' screen where the clasp is on a standard watch bracelet, and to be fair it looks great.

Has a lot more features this time such as microphone with voice control, Alexa, notifications/messages, health, steps, blood oxygen, sleep tracker, is water resistant and apparently lasts one week on a charge.

Available in various widths, and also in various materials, so should fit your Rolex/Omega/TAG/Patek/IWC or whatever.

Having not bothered with smartwatches before because I love mechanical watches so much, this could be the perfect solution for me.

I considered a Tag Connected for a while and ultimately decided against it and bought a Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, as much as I liked the look of the Tag I couldn't reconcile with myself that ultimately it was the same as a much cheaper smart watch inside the case, running same software etc but just with a nicer case around it and a better badge.

On a traditional watch I can appreciate the engineering of the watch and the mechanisms but I simply didn't feel the same way about a smart watch.

That does look interesting, although being a wrong wrist heathen I'd scratch the crap out of that screen in no time as I still use a mouse right handed hehe

The name is at least entertaining, "Lord M, apologies for the unsolicited pictures of my wena, it's just I know you've been keeping an eye on them for a while, so I thought you'd like to take a look at it in action"

rofl

Here was me expressing disgust at sexual harassment in the workplace on another thread, and posting photos of my Wena in here...

Strangely I wear my watch on my right hand, but I'm right handed. There was apparently some debate about me being left or right handed as a child, but that issue was apparently 'solved' by my parents and teachers telling me off every time I picked up a pen with my left hand, and shoving it into my right hand... rolleyes

Same here.
Hmm, hopefully good glass in there. I have a big mousepad though so that'll be fine. Find the RRP a bit too steep though, cost as much as the majority of my watches frown

Yep same here, although without the telling off, I was just taught things right handed so write and use a mouse right handed.

Things I haven't been 'taught' how to do as such I tend to do left handed, things like brushing my teeth, shaving, holding drinks, and obviously, wearing a watch.

I would agree I don't see Google phasing out their Wear OS in favour of Fitbit, I thinkl it's more likely Fitbit if they stay as an independent brand will be moved onto Wear OS eventually.

Would agree with that.

I haven't got a smart watch, it is tempting but I am not sure how much I would use it. I don't think I would be against wearing it on my right wrist and still wearing a proper watch.

I had an early Tag Connected and alternated with an Apple Watch series 0

I didn’t rate it at all and moved it on for what I paid for it thankfully.

I now wear an Apple Watch on my right wrist and when I wear a traditional watch it goes on the left. I’ve only had one comment about “double watching”.

I’d just be careful with the Tag as it’s not a great device over and above any other smart watch for a fraction of the price.

I know none of us should really care what other people think, but I would honestly never wear two watches as I have heard quite a few derogatory comments about 'double watches' and how daft it looks.

I was on a site one day and one of the directors was getting the piss ripped out of him by some of the architects because he was wearing an Apple watch on one wrist and something else (think it was a Rolex GMT) on the other. He retorted by saying "This one displays how many emails I have, and this one displays how much money I have"

I honestly wasn't sure whether to be impressed or to vomit when I heard that rofl

My wife, who wears an Apple Watch on weekdays and a Datejust on weekends, came home from work one day and expressed some mild disgust that one of the new managers "Wears two watches" and she thought it was really weird, and so did some of her colleagues apparently.

I mean, it is a slightly weird. A smartwatch tells the time and date first and foremost, so there is absolutely no reason to wear any other form of watch, unless you are trying to show off or something like that?

I would personally think it was a little odd if I saw it, but I wouldn't be so impolite as to say anything. Horses for courses, personal preference and all that.
