ACT performance sell the K&N filter as well as induction pipes etc for Chims/Grifs.

I recently fitted a K&N, purchased from ACT to my 4.0L Chim, having previously performed this mod to a number of MX5's that I had played with.
On the 5 it made a discernable difference both in terms of breathabliity and a nice noise around 3k+revs. However, on the Chim I can't see or feel that it has made any difference; I am still happy with the product and Tim at ACT's service and advice.
I know that Tim offers a smooth bore pre and jpsot Air Flow Meter tube to replace the vacuum cleaner pipe which is fitted as standard; he tells me that makes a difference to the engines ability to breath.

You've probably hit the nail on the head there Mike, I have read before that fitting the K&N alone makes no real perfomance gains, it's just a better filter than the factory Pipercross and easier to maintain.
I fitted mine with the smooth pipes and did notice a difference for the better. No real significant power gains but the car ran a whole lot smoother and revved more cleanly.
so just replace the long pipe from the front valance to the airflow meter?...i can see that making a difference to airflow as it would be a smooth pipe so the air would flow better...but what other ones...they are already smooth. Sorry to be nieve or sound like a novice...but, well, i am!!!!
Not sure how this will work out...just ordered a K&N filter from ACT...also ordered a 3m length of the 'Samco' smooth bore 8mm diameter pipe from 'performancecentre.co.uk' for £17.50 (all in inc. delivery). This is same stuff that the kits are made from (i think).
Not sure how i will do with the bend from the meter to the plenum as it is quite tight...but the run from the filter to the meter should be easy enough.
Saves a bit of coin...?? why not try it as an experiment?

As you're good customer i think i should help you
Erm i think you've just ordered 3m of 8mm (5/16 inch)bore vacuum tube. if it's not too late you might be able to cancel the order. For induction pipe you need 76mm bore pipework but it doesn't bend !

Hi Tim (2 Sheds) just seen your profile and see you work for ACT...what kind of difference will the straight induction hoses make..is it very noticeable or is it like most things and different cars respond differently???
could there also be a possibility that petea made a typo and meant 78mm instead of 8mm...???
