This is the third new wedge owner I have posted to today.

Thank you all for your welcome. I need some advice please. I've covered about 50 miles in my new 350i, and have just had to call the RAC because the clutch biting point had dropped so low that it is now almost impossible to get the thing into gear. Apparently the master cylinder has gone. Where does this part come from (Rover, Ford ?), and how much should I expect a garage to charge me to supply and replace it ? The car is a 1989 350i.

If it is the master cylinder and not something else, DIY, dead easy.

I had a similar experience last night on a drive out. Thankfully it was just a shortage of fluid. I take it you have checked the level?

Got new seals for mine from a small/old parts shop. Took the master cylinder apart and took the seals in. The bloke in there was very helpful and rooted through a box of spares until he found the right one. Think it cost around £6. Or take it to a garage and prepare to get fleeced..

Thanks for the advice. The fluid level is ok, but it is leaking into the drivers footwell , and when I drive the car, the biting point gradually gets lower and lower, until the system is blead.

I have a feeling this car is going to teach me about mechanics fairly quickly.

If it is, 2 nut and bolts and a clevis pin and a split pin if memory serves. 1/2 hour tops?
