13yo stabbed in Reading
Discussion
It's awful. I was walking with a friend in the fields near Pangbourne at the time it apparently took place, and I saw this on Thames Valley Police's Facebook feed a couple of hours ago. So I wasn't a million miles away from Reading. I had a look on the map to see where it was to see whether my dashcam might have caught anything on my way home, but it looks like that area is in Caversham which is miles away from my route home. I thought Caversham was supposed to be a nice area, which makes this all the more shocking.
Not surprised head office isn’t far away was talking to a young chap there a few months ago. He’d been attached.
Around 20 years ago first visit to there, stepped out of a taxi a man ran full speed at me with a knife in his hand then veered off at the last second. No idea what that was about.
13, country lines?

Its the gangster paradox. Not far from there is the "poor" area. A high density housing in the middel of somewhere quite nice. Well... Was...
Young kids want to act like "gangsters", they feel it makes them look tough when walking about amongst the posh folk of the local area.
The gangster cancer is spreading across all kids of all demographics. I suspect the act went a little too far this time.
The solution? I dont know. But i do know of several black children who are bullied because they talk properly and dont join the primary school gang for there selective skin colour. Should probably start with doing somthing about that.

If true, better, and properly funded, early years provision, less ghettoisation and more stop treating poverty as a moral issue. Unfortunately the closure of early years provision last year, and possibly this year, will only make it worse.Electro1980 said:

Unfortunately, throwing money at the problem doesn't work. We have always had poor people. Children murdering children is a relatively new phenomenon (in this exact context). One of my offices is next door to a school for the impoverished. All they do is smash the place up, spill out on to the streets for a fight, or just to shout at each other in some ghetto language. Mostly.
The teachers are not much better, they spill out on to the streets too. Speaking in the same ghetto language. Usually whilst smoking.
I also used to work for the local council, in education. My view is, it's a cultural issue. The "look at how hard done by" type of victim complex, mixed with a bit of gangster entitlement mentality. Give someone something and they don't tend to see the value in it. Make them work for it and they do.
I still don't know how that translates into a policy. But I do know that...
When visiting most "impoverished" people over the years. Most who had been given a brand new house / flat. Less than a year old. With a new laptop to do school work on. I was walking in to completely trashed places. Watching people spitting on the floor, seeing toilets that had probably never been cleaned. Kitchens that were just biohazards... but never cooked in. Usually with a moped or scrambler bike in them. Oh... and the laptops were almost always smashed up too. Smashed screens, keyboards etc... And I would get sworn at and threatened for giving them this "piece of crap" laptop.
Know the area well after living there for a long time, and have friends with children that age in Emmer Green and Caversham. Will be interesting to see what comes out in the wash.
Even though that area, north of the river, is mostly nice to extremely nice, as mentioned above there is a large estate (Amersham Road) which doesn't rub well with the rest and also the Caversham Park estate is known for some troublesome kids . There is one secondary school north of the river, where everyone goes and it's not always plain sailing. I know there have been some boys of that age getting in to trouble in the park near to where the stabbing occurred just before Xmas, parents being hauled in to the school etc.

Currently half way through reading a book on County Lines drug dealing. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B082MRHT95/ref...
This sounds like a text book case. Drug dealers from the big cities grooming kids to do the dirty work for them.

That part of Reading is probably far too distant from the drugs scene. I suspect it's more likely bored kids and 'gangs' rather than the proper thing. This sounds like a text book case. Drug dealers from the big cities grooming kids to do the dirty work for them.
That said, Reading has witnessed an awful county lines related murder in the past: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Mary-Ann_L...

Also Amersham road is TBH only one Asbo or was but there are a number of grown boys riding tiny BMXs seats to the cross bar knees to their ears. Must be a style thing who knows.

They tortured that poor girl & her friend for hours - cigar burns etc horrific. We also had the shooting by two drug guys in the Matrix. Then on Oxford road must be 15 years ago mid day gun shoot over the main road into a corner shop.
2 girls from Highdown school had an incident with a much bigger girl from chill teen edge (Sonning common) she knifed them in a fight in the Rivermead area - one girl to intensive care.

Various rumours going around that the victim was the boyfriend of the girl arrested, and that she put out a request that someone stab him because of a row they'd had. Mental.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was a imbecilic as that.Stuff like this does happen in Reading but the young age of all involved is quite shocking. Not nice.
