I have some funds that are doing nothing in a Cash ISA. It's a secondary emergency pot so I don't want to risk all of it, yet I don't want to be effectively losing money due to the very low interest rate vs inflation.

I was going to split it 50/50 into Cash ISA and Stocks & Shares ISA, however I've spoken to Vanguard and they can only transfer the full amount or a single year? I know I could move all of it and put 50% in a bonds fund (the other 50% would probably be in "Global All Cap Index") which is pretty much the same but it's still not zero risk.

Alternatively, I could put part of it in a SIPP (which apparently I can have alongside my company pension but I'm not sure why that would be a good idea)?

Suggestions welcome!

I had a sizeable chunk in a cash ISA that's been building over about 10 years, it's been earning me about £20 a month recently! frown

A year ago I started a SIPP and invested in funds rather than shares, that pot is up 8% since summer.

So a few months ago I decided to move over some of my Cash ISA into a Stocks and Shares ISA that I've had running for donkey's years, but never really used for anything serious. I moved over two 'chunks' of "previous years" allowance from my cash ISA to the Stock and Shares ISA over the last 2 months, and then invested in funds again. These are now up about 2% so far.

I'll leave the remaining cash ISA where is is for now as a reserve pot, but this years ISA allowance will be joining the Stock and Shares ISA pot.

The main difference from what you've been told is that I WAS able to move previous years cash ISA money from my bank cash ISA to my ii Stock and Shares ISA, not sure why you shouldn't be able to either?

How much is the current stocks and shares ISA returning you (%)
I would be surprosed if you could't get more (like you alluded to ) elsewhere, but the risk reward is always going to be there.

I scrapped my cash ISA's as they were earning sweet FA after the inital headline interest rate.
I dare not think how much opportunity cost I've squandered by NOT putting it into a tracker of some form.....

All change now, no cash ISA for me.

If you still want to do 50/50 and haven’t used the cash isa this year open a new one and transfer half to it, the transfer from that to Vanguard. You can open as many Isas as you like, you just can’t pay new money into more than one of each type in a financial year.

Thanks all. I don't currently have a S&S ISA.

I could open a new Cash ISA, transfer 50% and then transfer all of that to Vanguard as suggested. I just don't see why Vanguard can't transfer 50% of the current Cash ISA fund.
