Now I have a special heat-tape around the cats and the exhaust-tubes (I don't know the exact word) . The effect is amazing.Really.

I've often thought about that.... would keep engine bay temperatures down too if you could manage to get it around the exhaust manifold..

My only question is, where is the heat going? It is still being generated by the engine. I assume it will dissipate further on down the line - possibly creating hot spots where they were none before. Just an observation.

I thought about that tape as well after seing it autosport. I also wondered where the heat would go. I must say I dont mind it!

Well, I suppose the hotter the cats, the more efficiently they work, so that's a good thing, until they melt

Also I suppose as long as the hot spots don't devlop under the fuel tank, that'll be O.K.

Anyone else have any comments on doing this? Sounds great. Is it safe / will it cause any problems?

We find the cabin really hot sometimes. We have a Tam with no a/c.

Unless I'm imagining the whole thing, I think the tape you're referring to is some kind of glassfibre weave (looks like it anyway).

When used as exhaust wrap, it keeps the exhaust gas temperature up. Now, this is where I could be really wrong, but I believe it is done so the exhaust gas stays less dense (due to the heat) and therefore flows more freely than colder gas would (in the same exhaust).

IIRC, it's used in motorsport a fair bit to assist in a more free flowing system.

my garage removed the exhaust manifold and the cats for taping it.
I don't know the name of the tape but your supplier will know, for sure

MarkoTVR is right. I think that the hotter the exhaust the better the 'scavenging' and faster flow of unwanted gases. Wrapping the manifold etc. does help with this and keeps under bonnet temps down.

my dealer won't make this modification for me. They say it will increase the engine temperature with unknown consequences...

That's rubbish, it keeps heat *out* of the engine bay.
