Received an email a couple of years ago telling me I'd been one of those affected by the BA data breach that had taken place back then.

I see there is some kind of deadline coming up for joining a class action - anyone have any views on whether there's any point in doing so? Or would I simply be encouraging ambulance-chasing?

Can you articulate the loss that you have suffered that you require compensating?

I was caught in this. New card ordered and a chat about all the latest transaction in 10 minutes.

I will not be claiming.

Blimey, I wouldn't be expected to prove loss would I? Seem to get a lot more scam calls since but beyond that...

I'm all for anything that ups the punishments big firms face for the lacklustre data protection! Such a basic thing so many firms still take a lacklustre approach to.

Try for everything you can OP!

I doubt you’d get very far but this is still relatively new and might be worth the effort. Ultimately it is your data that has been lost, although most of it could probably be obtained from other sources anyway (hopefully minus your card details). It was most annoying their fine was so massively reduced for such a blatant mis-management of your data, almost cowboy in nature. When I joined the forces (a while ago) a CD of our recruitment data was lost which had a lot of personal details on including national insurance numbers, address, passport details etc, and being a crown body wasn’t much any of us could do. If you feel wronged there’s no harm in looking further into this.

You can make a claim with PGMBM by the end of January 2021, no win no fee basis, their fee is capped at 35% of your claim.

Really can't see why anyone would claim UNLESS they did suffer some kind of loss.

I got the BA data breach email, but changed a couple of passwords as NO card details were taken so took me about 1min to resolve & thus was hardly out of pocket.

Going down the route of 'making them pay' i think given the huge fine they received, they've been made to pay & see no reason why the unaffected general public should jump on the bandwagon.

Sole purpose is to now line the pockets of unscrupulous law firms looking to make a fast buck, so NO i won't be looking to claim for something i didn't losesmile

If you haven’t suffered a loss, what would you be claiming for ?

Someone has had access to my data because BA were negligent. That's a loss.

The question is the extent and impact of that loss and, like I said above, I seem to have had a lot more scam calls since - a coincidence maybe - but beyond that I'm not sure.

If the scam calls are a result of BA's negligence then I'd be bloody furious. Are they? I don't know. If they are, could I prove it? I doubt it.

What data have they had access to and how does that convert into a loss? If it is purely contact details then what loss have you suffered?

Particularise and quantify your loss.

I was caught up in this too. Never had the slightest inkling to join up to the suit, but BA did cancel 3 flights on me that year, so there is a part of me that almost wants to do it just to make their lives a bit more difficult in the same way they did mine.

Absolutely. If you've got a warm and fuzzy feeling about them, then support them. However most of us have been fked over at one time or another by large hard-faced companies so it restores the balance to get something back.

Nail. Head.

And perhaps some positive support so they can convince themselves that they're not doing it just for some free money.......

That would be nice...

But if I give someone my data, I expect them to look after it and might expect some payback if they don't.
