Buy a large saucepan/stock pot and a stick blender.
This. We had a Morphy Richards soupmaker but found it quite frustrating. It didn't hold that much, would refuse to work if over-filled and was quite noisy (frightened our dog!) and temperamental. In the end, we ditched it and used our pressure-cooker and a stick blender. Edited by sherman on Tuesday 5th January 22:29
Another +1 for using a hand-held blender. I’ve used one with acceptable success over the past few weeks to make a chicken & mushroom soup, a tomato & basil soup and a mushroom & garlic soup.
I’d say quality ingredients are more important than equipment. I use stuff from a local fruit & veg wholesaler and it’s so much better than supermarket stuff.
