Optimum Spec? and Servicing costs - 987 Boxster

We've secured finance for a new Boxster and are wondering on PHers opinions on the cars optimum spec, when considering option purchase cost to resale value. A completely standard 2.7 Boxster retains 70% of its value according to What Car after 3 years of ownership. Ideally we would like to keep at least this residual percentage after speccing our car. I'd also like an idea of servicing costs for the Boxster if at all possible.
We're thinking of the following options;
Metallic Paint
Sports seats in leather
Park Assist
18" Boxster wheels
Thoughts/opinions?

Kinda related question - is park assit really necessary on that type of vehicle? I thought the benefits of tat fature really only showed on larger cars.
Wouold be interested to know (especially for this thread) as the option cost might be better placed on something more 'desirable' from the options list.

For residual I would look at something along the lines of:
Metallic
(Something safe along the lines of Blue, Basalt Black, Grey, Silver )
PCM +CDC (maybe + Telephone module)
Bose + wind deflector
Climate
18" Wheels (19" at a push but ride is slightly compromised without PASM)
Park Assist is one of those things, IMO, until you have it, its not necessary, but once you've had it you miss it (but I'm not quite sure why!!).
I reckon for a 12k service you're looking in the region of £300 and 24k around £500.

The reason we're going for park assist is that the car will probably be used by multiple drivers.
Furthermore we're thinking that at resale time, the lady Boxster drivers may well see this as a valuable feature on the car?
As for colour, we're going safe with Arctic Silver/Seal Grey with a black full leather interior.
Is the BOSE stereo upgrade a real necessity come resale? Like PCM on the 997?
If the servicing costs are £300/£500 then this isn't bad at all and well manageable. I understand that the car will probably need new rear boots at about 7K miles.

The good thing on the Boxster is it's very discreet and you don't get the full on bumper nipples. And for what, £350? It's worth having it to avoid the potential for a new bumper.
Got 9K out of my original tyres. My Boxster had NO options at all, even added the wind deflector afterwards! At the end of the day the more you spend the more there is to depreciate. That said, as a potential Boxster buyer now (after 2 awful years without one!) I'd definitely want air con and leather.
BOSE sounds good - the engine sounds better (above 5000rpm).
Whatever the options though you'll still love it!

PSP minimum - std stereo would be embarrasing in a Fiesta let alone a Porsche
wind deflector
+ full leather seats (tho this would be last on list)

Getting the right spec on German cars is very hard - most options are worth zero but some are worth more than they cost or are actually invaluable if they are the difference between selling your car and not. Remember that prestige cars never 'make' book and that the % residual tables mean nothing because they are based on the list price whereas most cars have 10%+ on top in options. You may think that a Boxster will lose £4k pa over three years but reality is £6k pa after allowing for the above two points.
As for spec I would add heated seats, wind deflector, the sound pack, metallic and partial leather seats. I would then consider 18" wheels, CD changer, cruise and parking sensors but I would'nt expect these or other options to add anything to the px price after three years.
BTW these are great cars - I've got a 987S and am very impressed.

Thanks, I think we're on the same wavelength with this. Ultimately losses will be made on the options but it's striking a balance between spending as small amount as possible on options (a lot of the optional kit is superflouous(sp.) anyway!) and being able to sell the thing at resell time.
First car (987 2.7) I've ever had where the driving and owning experience stops you worrying about the depreciation! Suggest you reverse into a parking bay at the end of your test drive - that convinced me to spec reversing sensors - the rear visibility is not great with the hood up. And the rain sensors are great - not having to keep adjusting the intermittent in light right is a real bonus.
