Dear all
As inferred, I run Windows 10 Professional on my machine . When itially setting it up to run on my newbuild, it makes you open a Microsoft "account". Not something I'm interested in. After being pestered with "notifications" ,and after turning them off, I thought I would fix the problem for good. So I ran Netplwiz, and set up a password of my choosing, thinking this would rid me of my unwanted M'soft "account."

Well, it hasn't. If I do a complete shutdown or restart, then I can log in with my password of choice. However, if I choose to go into sleep mode, I have to enter my M'soft "account" related password to boot up when waking the machine up. This also comes up with a variety of pretty pictures , (not needed) and opens a window in M'soft edge, enticing me to partake of quizzes in Bing. (Again, none of which wanted)

It's really pissing me off. So, how can I just uses my preferred password for sleep mode, and do away with the M'soft "account" bks totally?

Cheers

Dave.

How far have you gotten with the install?

You can skip the MS account creating by unplugging the PC from the network during the initial setup.... https://www.howtogeek.com/442609/confirmed-windows...

You "should" be able to set up a local admin account & remove the MS account if you don't want to go through the install again. I say "should", as i've not tried myself.

You've obviously 'allowed' one of their sneaky options during set-up (probably by being connected to the internet when you did the install)...and have provided your email address at some point...otherwise it wouldn't know you had an account.

Once it's on, it's a PITA to remove...I solved it by starting from scratch (on a new PC, so nothing to lose) and kept it disconnected from ethernet/wifi until I'd got all the way through saying 'no' to every 'live/sync' option.

It doesn't 'make' you create or use an MS account, but it rather obfuscates how to circumvent it.
If you say the computer is to be used on a domain there is no requirement, apart from a username which can be anything you choose. If you skip the password creation you'll never be prompted for one either.

Hi
Try this link, it explains how to change to a local account. IIRC your original user name will not be usable as a message come up that it is alreadfy in use, so pick another name (or similar wording)

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-microsoft-ac...

Hope this helps.

Do you need to have the password required after waking from sleep? I'd be tempted just to turn that off

Thanks all for your input. Looks like I got suckered in the install routine. It was the first time (still the only time) I had installed Win 10, in fact the last time I installed any version of windows (Win 8) was around 5 years back. Having read of Win 10's "invasions" of privacy, I decided to go for the Pro version thinking such nonsense would not be in it, wrong on that one. I suppose big corporates use install routines which avoids all the crap .

I'll have a play aound, see what I can sort. I'll have a look at the supplied link Techno, thanks.

Thanks all.

I use https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 to remove most of the Win10 spyware.

In offices we would use Enterprise not Pro.
