Just got home from possibly the worst 2 1/2 weeks of my life.

Was at Le Mans, fell over and twisted both ankles badly. Didn't think much of it, so went to a hotel and thought i'd sleep it off. Woke up 30 hours later dazed, confused and in agony. Went back to where I was staying (in Tours 90 km away) to meet up with the rest of the lads who thought I was lying in a gutter dead, police/hospitals notified.

My mate drove the e-type back and I checked into hospital. X-rays showed nothing, I started vomiting blood so they did a blood test.

Turned out I had a rare condition called Rabdo-miolocis where extensive trama causes muscle to break down creating necrotic (dead) cells in the blood. Normal count is 100, mine was 46000

My kidneys and liver had failed and I was put into intensive care before being transferred to Guys hospital and put on life support.

Was put on dual fluid drips to flush out the system - at a rate of 24 ltrs / 24 hours. Was on this for a week and I literally doubled in size due to fluid retention. Had dialasys once.

Was on intrevenous morphine for the pain, and was critical for 10 days. Was very very close to dying. Not a common condition for a 24 yr old.

Luckily my kidneys and liver are on the road to recovery. Still learning to walk again - but i'm just very lucky that my body is strong. Kidneys and liver will make a full recovery.

Defo given me a new perspective on life, don't hold off - carpe diem. Jacked my contract in - doing some travelling and will be getting a new toy soon. F40 perhaps.

Just thought i'd share this with you incase anybody was wondering where i've been....

I'm just an interloper to this forum so afraid I can't say I'd missed you, but Jesus!!! Glad your OK, certainly not what you'd expect to come down with following a twisted ankle and just goes to show how even the most trivial accidents can turn out to be serious.
You've got exactly the right attitude in that your taking time out and re-adjusting your priorities in life. Hell of a scare especially at just 24 years old.
As I said, glad your recovering and hope you recover quickly.

Hi Jon,

Also an interloper, and would like to echo eveything Zippee said.

Have also had what i thought to be trivial things happen to me and family that have not been so...

All the best for the future...

Jonny5,

Sounds like a total nightmare; hope the road to recovery is a fast one !! Best wishes

Hopefully the PH community can lighten up the period and make it pass quickly.

Glad you're back Jonny.
Always thought le mans was dangerous, but that is taking it just too far! Glad you're safe and sound.

Carpe Diem indeed

Crikey.

You won't want to go through that again. Good to hear you'll make a full recovery.

Enjoy living life with your new Seize the day attitude. I picked it up after 18 days in hospital thanks to a drink driver 6 years ago. Changed career, started buying mental rather than sensible cars and haven't looked back.

Glad your getting better. Life is short so enjoy your time. No point being 90 and wishing you had bought the F40.

Having read the details your lucky to be still here.

Sorry to hear about your awful ordeal, very glad that you are getting better: I've read many of your posts as a Ferrari forum lurker.

Get well soon!

Sam

An unbelievable condition for a 24yo, (I'm 24 too so read with worry) did the injury set the blood problem off?

Glad you are recovering. It could have been a whole lot worse if they had not figured out what was happening. Presumably this is something that will stay with you every time you experience a serious trauma?

Anyway, have to agree with the attitude change!

Thanks for all your kind words, hopefully I shouldn't experience the breakdown of muscle tissue (rhabdomyolocis) again. The doctors think maybe my drink was spiked with drugs/poison (?!) which led to the start.

Guys hospital was amazing, I really owe my life to the talents of the renal team.

Jaysus Jonny - like a few others, had seen the thread for a couple of days and thought it was just a "treatment went ok guys".

Now having read it - thank God you caught it in time!

Fully agree with live for the day.... don't take it it too much to the extreme though... you might live to be 100

Jonny,

I'm amazed at what you have been through - and very glad you are getting back to full health. Its the kind of think that could have happened to any of us - glad you were in the right place to get the right attention.

Roll on the F40! No point wishing and wondering... life is too short.

I'm really pleased to hear that you'll recover 100%.

I totally understand your attitude - I've been watching a friend (a real petrol head) die from brain cancer for the last 6 months.

He's now reduced to squeezing my fingers in response to conversation. Like me, he's 45.

When you're 24, that sounds old, but believe me it isn't.

Get yourself 100%, Jonny, and live for today.
