Road Fund Licence

Has anyone received the V11 vehicle road fund licence reminder form during the Covid period? I recall that Rishi Sunak gave some sort of holiday period last year (or was this just for an MOT) but I cannot remember how long this lasted. As yet I have not received mine and my licence runs out end of January. In normal circumstances, I would take this form to my village Post Office and pay over the counter. I am not keen to do it online as the only time I tried to do it in that manner my credit card got cloned, and that was on the government website!

All MoTs expiring from March 30th to July 31st 2020 received a 6 month extension, not a 'holiday' as such. No changes to RFL since it did not require the use of a garage inspection. Reminders were and still are sent to the address of the registered keeper.

I doubt your card details were obtained there unless you went to a spoof site. A lot of fraudulent emails are sent out about car tax, income tax refunds, Tv licence etc. I've had a few myself.

You can do it on the phone again now I believe, but you'd need to check that.

Reminders are normally sent out on about the 14th of the month it expires so you should get yours next week.

Many will have received a V11 since last March and renewed their VED on-line without any problems, I'd say it was nigh on impossible for your card to be cloned by using the government portal. From my experience with four cars during the past year your reminder should arrive in about a week or so from now.

One of mine runs out at the end of the month and I got home last night to the reminder so anytime soon I would think you’ll get it.

It seems quite straightforward to set up a DD on the govt website with no cloning issues. I'd not give up on that, just make sure you are actually on the govt website.

Yes you need to pay it and the system is still as normal. Do it online unless you have a Post Office open to do it. (I think they still can but I have done mine online for some time.).
MOT is needed, mine was done yesterday. The extension period was for a limited time only as garages were under near lockdown. The rules are now relaxed to let them open and work.

I'm 58 and it was scrapped before I was born, I do find it puzzling how the term has stuck. I was in car sales in the eighties and it was printed on orders/invoices and even back then customers would comment that our paperwork was fifty odd years out of date. We did change it eventually, removing the box for car tax at the same time.

Or indeed "MoT" which seems to have no more modern equivalent term but how long is it since we last had a Ministry of Transport ?
