Hi guys,
I am looking at installing 3 POE CCTV camera but not sure what system I should be going for and all youtube & google searches seem to be from the US so not sure if they are sold in the UK.
I have a battery powered Arlo camera set however it's 5 years old now & 3 times it's missed peoples face because of the delay getting up to speed so I am going to bite the bullet and buy a hardwired system hoping it's faster and actually gets the persons face. I'm happy running ethernet cable as have an integrated garage I can run it through but not sure what system.
Does anyone have any POE systems & if so would they recommend them?

Stick with Dahua and/or hikvision.
And this guy gives independent reviews of the cameras and he's not wrong for the recommendations he gives.

I have 2 Hikvision cameras running through my Synology NAS using POE - no problems so far. I used this to work out what focal lengths I needed - it has most (but not all) cameras pre loaded but if you cant find the one you need, simply put the values in manually.

Do you need a NAS for recording or can it be done online?
I have a small network in my lockup with a poe switch, would like to add a few cameras without having to invest in recording facilities, although I’d consider a NAS for file sharing and backup if that’s a better way of doing things

The Hikvision cameras I have, have a slot for a uSD card and will record onto that - I don't think there is a facility to save to the cloud, but I've never looked into it, so there might be. You can view them remotely via the app, so assuming they are somewhere that they can't be 'easily' got to, the uSD card and remote access might suit your needs (assuming you workshop network is connected to the internet).I have a small network in my lockup with a poe switch, would like to add a few cameras without having to invest in recording facilities, although I’d consider a NAS for file sharing and backup if that’s a better way of doing things

I have Hikvision, wouldn’t bother again it’s too specialist and hard to alter, changing broadband requires a security engineer.
Each of my Hikvision cameras have a 'local' IP address, simply tap that into a web browser, log in with username and password, change stuff to my hearts desire - no need for a security engineer... Couldn't be easier! Oh and I think I can change things via the Hikvision app as well.I’ve got the hikvision app, it is dismal. Playback works sometimes, other times not at all. Meant to be able to dial into the system to check it status, that doesn’t work. The alarm dials out and you should be able to acknowledge it via phone, that doesn’t work. Ring all the way from the install my mate has.

Really? The Hikvision app is rock solid in my experience. Changing any settings is very straightforward, either on the app or the NVR. I suspect you may have issues personal to your set up, as opposed to it being a generic problem with Hikvision, You have a point re the Ring stuff, but it is mostly aimed at those that cannot read or write.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
