I purchased an Ultimate Speed charger/trickle charger from Lidl for £12:99 recently (cheap C-Tek clone) . I have an Odessey 680 race car battery. Is anyone else trickle charging their Odessey 680 or equivalent AGM battery with this charger? Any issues?

i think the problem is that the life of your agm could be shortened with standard trickle charging, not that users will report back "it failed". so the Lidl charger might be a false economy.

Not me. I use my ctek with a specific AGM setting for my AGM batteries. My Lidl charger is just used on my cars with lead acid batteries.

The Ultimate Speed charger does have an AMG trickle mode. I wouldn’t use a normal charger on it.

Has your Lidl charger got an AMG trickle mode?

That’s pretty much it, just a different colour....mine’s red.

Just wondered if there’s anyone on PH that has been using one on trickle charge on their AMG battery that has had issues.

No, neither AGM nor AMG mode wink.
My Lidl charger is a couple of years old (grey top, blue base) and it only has motorbike, car and winter modes.
I see from above that the winter mode may be suitable for AGM batteries, I have not heard this before but will stick to using my ctek on AGM batteries as it has a specific AGM mode.

Hadn't noticed that. Winter mode looks a touch suspicious doesn't it, mean to say where is spring and summer mode

I bought a Halfords charger recently for my mother's car that has not been used properly since the start of lockdown 1. It has a battery maintenance function as well as normal charging but it says on the back not for use with stop start or AGM batteries.

She has a normal lead acid battery and the car predates stop start so that is not a problem. Can anyone explain what the issue is with stop start and AGM batteries? I do know that when I replaced the battery on my daughter's car, which has stop start, the battery was more expensive because of that.

I've got one of those. Can't fault it on lead acid batteries. I've never used the winter mode. I think it's if the temp is less than 5 Deg C or something.
