Stock and Share ISA for dummies

Hi,

I've not used my 20-21 ISA allowance up yet so was going use the whole lot up on a Stocks and Share ISA, I've dabbled in shares before (unsuccessfully) so would like to look at fund of some description, is there anything anyone can recommend ? My investment risk profile is middle ground, I don't want anything megger high risk but would like the chance to make some £. I wont go into details why but I can only use Barclays Smart Investor as my broker.

Do you have a purpose for the investments, a goal to use the money for eventually? If you do, what is the timescale involved?
