Paranoid about vandalism
Discussion
Hi,
Went to look at an 18 month old 3R <3K miles on Saturday and guy reckons he will take 40K with no part-ex. The car is gorgeous and fell instantly in love with it as I knew I would.
It would be my main car but I am a bit fearful of leaving it parked in the street and in car parks as I can see some jealous idiot keying it. Has anybody has this experience or am I just being overly paranoid? At the moment this is really the only thing putting me off as it is pointless me having a car that I couldn't leave anywhere.
The other thing I thought is that the front workings just below the windscreen look a bit exposed to the elements. Is a 3R more susceptible to weather damage than a normal everyday car?
Cheers, Denver

It's not a Ferrari, Porsche or anything else that generates bad feelings.
No matter how rough the area is, all I've got is lots of bowing and "respect"
A trick my brother did was to take all of the local kids out when he got his Esprit for a ride, and repeated every few months - the car then got it's own mafia throughout the families in the dodgy estate next to where he lived

Just for info - ring round some other dealers to see what that car is worth if you were to sell it back, I'm guessing you'll get offers around £30k-£32k so you might want to haggle the price down a bit more.
The only part on my car that was left outside that got weathered was the rear spoiler which went milky but a 3R might mave a painted spoiler anyway?

Agreed. The local kids come around just to look at my car. There's something about an M12 that inspires respect. I know it sounds stupid but it's true. I was driving behind a guy in an s2000 with the roof down. A group of chav-like dads shouted obscenities at him, then saw me behind and talked to each other with interest. Yeah, they could have planning to nick it but it didn't seem that way.
Drive it, park it, live it.
If something happens, it happens and you then deal with it. Nowt has happened to mine in 1 year of near every day driving and leaving at the station car park!
I get similar impression to the others...little in the way of ill feeling much more respect and thumbs up from the public...young and old alike.

I have had 2 cars keyed, Audi A4 and my newley painted baz mobile (I was 17).
Noble just gets bowed to and I have seen kids on the market square where I sometimes park in evening getting their mates to take pictures of them standing by it. I think it unlikely that these same kids would also want to key it.
A ferrari on the other hand.................

Its not so much people shouting abuse, although a cyclist did spit on my car in London once (and no I hadn't done anything to the bastard). Its more the chavs in their novas undetaking you, pulling out, taking photos, dropping back, begging you to floor it, driving back around the inside etc. etc. The flattery is sometimes more dangerous than hatred!
You do of course get the odd person trying to prove something, but I tend to let it ride. No point messing with a chav willing to sit 1 inch from your bumper, or a bitter middle aged man in a dented 406 with his kids on board. The fact they are trying to prove something is sufficient evidence that you've already won and don't need to
I think the outrageousness of the car got me off being pulled for speeding in France too! I suspect the viper stripes and sunstrip making it look almost like a racing car might have helped.
