Happy New Years folks. I needed to replace the side repeater in my AM. So I had to remove the plastic liner by taking off some torx screws in the front bumper to get inside the fender. After replacing the side repeater, I just had to screw everything back. Unfortunately, one of the torx screws right behind the front wheel was very stubborn and would not go back in. As I gave it a hard turn, the metal plate that is glued inside the side of the front bumper, where the screw goes into, completely came off.

I don’t think you can replace this part. Even if I use adhesive and glue the plate back inside the front bumper, the torx screw won’t go back in. Don’t think it’s a big deal but was wondering if there is a diy fix?

You don’t say which Aston you have but my experience with both the earlier V8 Vantage and DB9 is that the front bumper has large metal brackets at each end which the wheel arch liners screw into. There is nothing glued!
These metal brackets can, however rust badly to the point where they need to be replaced ( ask me how I know!) and the metal brackets have to be remade as they are not available as a separate part.
It maybe that someone has glued part of the bracket as a bodge solution.

One of the brackets on mine is missing. It is the one on the passenger wing just behind the front wheel (close to where the repeater light is located) and is indeed glued to the wing. I have not replaced the bracket but suspect something like gorilla glue might do the trick if needed. However, I would expect it to be a weak point and wouldn't be surprised if it were to break off again if any force were applied, e.g. by trying to unscrew a bolt that was seized solid! I've simply put a plug in the wheel arch liner to close the hole where the bolt would go. There are enough bolts elsewhere to keep the liner in place.

It is a v8v. I just put some electric tape. What type of plug did you put? It just flaps but yes, there are enough torx screws everywhere to keep it pretty secure. I just thought it was strange that it came off.

Did you end up replacing it? If so, did you replace the entire bumper or did you just glue it back in?

Mine is a V8V too. I simply put a plastic trim plug in it, similar to the type that holds the carpet trim in place in the boot (trunk).

I am a little confused!

There is a glued on bracket but that is not on the bumper as others have said, it is to the rear of the front wheel. The brackets on the bumper as I mentioned before are not glued on but are part of a larger part riveted to the bumper.

On my DB9 they had suffered severe rusting and I had to refurbish them. The V8 Vantage which I also had is practically the same.

Hope picture attaches OK

Wow! That was a mess, wasn't it? Did you get someone to remanufacture the whole metal bracket or just clean up and repair the rusted one?

UPDATE: I have just looked at a spare V8V bumper I have and the reinforcements at each end of the bumper are different to the DB9 ones I posted earlier.

The V8V ones are plastic not metal and the bumper does not fix to them but rather to the bumper itself. The fixings being part of the total bumper moulding.

Sorry, if I caused any confusion!

Aston Martin owners. Pure class.

Kashmir rugs in the garage.

I had better buck my ideas up. My Aston Martin is only standing on worn out Axminster.

wink

What kind of climate do you guys drive in? Sulfuric acid? Between this and the photos on the rear subframe thread, I’m surprised you have any cars at all. Remind me to never import a car from the UK, no matter how good it looks from the outside. Looks like you need to disassemble the car to fully inspect everything.

We're an island and a small one at that, but with a temperate climate. Cool wet winters, warm wet summers.
Coton in the Elms is a village in Derbyshire and has the honour of being the furthest place from the coast in the UK. The sea is 70 miles away.

Want to buy a welder? It's barely used. biggrin

The V8V I have is a metal plate. I’m going to just leave it off. There’s NO point in gluing it back as the torx screw can’t even screw back in. Probably stripped or something but it won’t effect the liner
