I'm going to be selling my Octavia once lockdown 3.0 is done, and I have realised that what I really need is a luxobarge, rather than having 2 ruined cars.

It's been a while since I have looked at luxobarges, what is out that around that money?

Probably anything you want within reason. XJ, 7er, A8, S Class etc.

Just bear in mind that repairs and maintenance will most likely be quite high.

I’d focus on finding a clean, fully maintained car versus focusing in on one model.

At the £2k level, i would be picking something Lexus....anything else would be up for maximum bork factor!

Some good options there, thanks.

I also want a luxobarge as I won't be tempted to modify it, like I have done with the Skoda, and will continue to do so as I cannot help myself hehe

Jaguar X350 XJ6. Utterly sublime !

You’ll waft around in near silence, sitting in one of the most comfortable seats I’ve ever sat in whilst enjoying the most comfortable ride I’ve ever experienced. Then when you want to put your foot down, the car turns into a 1700kg Caterham.

Most engine related parts are dirt cheap, (Ford parts), and they don’t rust with the aluminium body.

You won't be able to help yourself biglaugh my daily was supposed to remain standard Eibach Springs bigger intercooler dyno remap bigger discs & some other upgrades, I look at it as OEM +

Lol. I have the E60 (should it remain) to spend money on, I just want something that is already decent and doesn't need running on 98ron etc.

I could potentially up my budget to £3k, I imagine there may be some interesting cars in that range.

Yes, if you buy carefully.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some dogs around at that sort of money, but there’s also plenty of well looked after examples at or below £2500.

Mine was a very tidy, fully loaded ex-demo followed by two elderly private owners and predominantly main dealer history, showing a verified 92’000 on the clock. It cost me £1800.

I did this last year and bought a 1996 Honda Legend. Not being used much at the moment. frown

Rolls a bit in the corners so is definitely a bit of a barge. I looked for a cheap Lexus LS400 but I'm not sure a decent one would be in budget?

Lexus LS400 gets my vote. I had one and ran it for 2 years. I bought it for £1,200. Only needed a battery in the 2 years I had it. 2 MOTs which both passed with 0 advisories.

After 2 years I sold it for £1,350 (it was actually featured on Pistonheads as a ‘shed of the week’ when I went to sell it lol).

Faultless. Effortless. Never had a ‘will it start’ moment. Everything worked on it including heated front and rear seats. Electric everything, such as electric headrests and steering wheel. It was silent inside sitting at 80mph on the motorway.

One of the best cars I have owned....only sold it as there’s too many other interesting things out there.

Re the E class and S Type, these seen like 5 series alternatives rather than luxobarges, does this sound right?

I only got £2,000 p/ex for my 2007 Lexus LS460 with 212K on the clock a few months ago. Superb cars.
