Porsche 911 996 1999 battery flat
Discussion
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a 911 996 year 1999 and the battery is flat. I cant get into the bonnet to get to the battery and the cable for the release has been removed by a previous owner. I have been told my only option is to remove the bumper and try to release the latch this way. Before I do I was just looking to see if anyone has any other advice on how to pop the bonnet.
Thanks.
Alex.

Which cable has been removed, the emergency release under the bumper or the one in the sill next to the drivers seat??
If the car still has the manual releases in the sill; remove the trim (remove the plastic bungs - if they are still there and undo the 5mm allen screws 3/4 turn) the trim pulls up, look at the mechanism and you'll see the manual locking latch; pull the mech back and the manual release will be free to move.
Make sure when it goes back together you put the locking latch into the locking solenoid in the sill or it will lock once and then not unlock....

It's a long time since I owned a 996. If it's an electrical release like the Boxster, try powering up the cigarette lighter socket or pull out the fuse for it and poke the + of a battery charger into it (I use a short length of cable clipped to the charger crocodile clip) and the negative charger clip to any bare metal part of the chassis.
You can release the lid then connect the charger as normal.

Pretty sure you jump start via the engine bay rather than the battery, as such is this an option?
Orangecurry said bump start, not jump start. I was suggesting that if the OP has access to the engine they might be able to power up the car via the jump terminals.
