Recently got a beam.
I already had a symfonisk bookshelf speaker so bought a second so I could use them for surround sound with the beam.
I've them set up as surround speakers on the app but there's not a peep coming from them.
LG tv is set to dolby digital, I've tried dolby pro and mpeg (?) But still nothing.
The app shows input to the beam is 5.1 when the source is 5.1 , which is correct according to sonos help pages.
If I press any of the control buttons on either of the surrounds it controls the beam volume accordingly, which suggests they are linked in some shape.
All 3 will work individually, the surrounds will work as a stereo pair and if not set up as the surrounds will all work as a group.
I've unpaired/paired them several times
Factory reset them.
Still not doing anything except act as very expensive shelves.

Anything obvious I'm missing?

Sounds like it could be related to the TV output
How's the Beam connected to the TV?

I've got the same setup (Beam + Symfonisk) with a Samsung TV, connected via the optical adapter. Turned off the internal speakers and the surround works as expected.

Hi - can you clarify what 'not working' means and how you know they are not working?

The two key things, which you suggest you have already done are:

- Add the Symfonisk as surround speakers; not just as a group. To do this go to Settings (gear icon), System, [Select the room that your Beam is in], then click on '+ Set Up Surrounds'.

- Check the input to the Beam is 5.1. The Beam only supports AC3 but if System / About My System says Dolby Digital 5.1 you should be OK.

From what you have said, you have grouped the speakers, not set them up as surrounds.

If you have done it correctly, when you go into Settings, System, does it say Beam (+Surrounds) for the appropriate room?

LG tv connected by hdmi arc. Internal speakers are turned off. I think I've an optical somewhere to try that option.

There's no sound coming out of them at all, not even a hint of anything.
Tried 5.1 content from Netflix and prime via both the apps on the way tv and fire stick.
Speakers are showing on the app as left and right surround.
Grouping them was just done to test audio from the tv was being sent to the speakers before adding them as the surrounds.
Not sure if it's relevant but the beam is connected to the network by ethernet, surrounds are wifi. If I understand it correctly that should mean they are all connected by sonos net?

The optic idea was a bust as I can't find the optical/hdmi converter and I got rid of the box just yesterday.
Anyhow, finally working. Whilst doing some stuff round the house today, grouped my play 1 with the beam group and wasn't getting music out of the surrounds. This suggested it wasn't an hdmi issue.
Pulled the ethernet and switched back to WiFi on the beam, unpaired the surrounds again which went a lot quicker than previously, paired the surrounds again, which again went quicker and no network error messages (forgot to mention that originally) and it worked straight away.

I don't know for sure about surrounds, but even if you are using WiFi, the Sub / Main connection is via SonosNet and I can imagine the same is true for surrounds.
