Has anyone imported an Italian registered car? was it straightforward? Will it be now we aren't part of EU?

Also thinking of keeping it in Italy for a year. If so can I just leave it Italian registered? Does this make it difficult to insure?

Generally the plates belong to the owner and not the car, so export plates would be needed and these can take some time (unlike in Germany). You used to have to get a notary involved to get the car exported and also paying for the car can get interesting as quite a few Italians with nice cars will only deal in cash, but good luck these days getting large sums of cash out either here or into EU. I haven't imported a EU car for a while now, but I would think since Brexit import duty and VAT would be involved.

All the dealers and friends I have known over the years of importing cars always tend to stay away from Italy as its a pain to get a car out.

Thing it will be straight forward as it can be, difference is you will have to pay VAT and probably import tax where as before if the VAT tax had been paid in Italy you wouldn't have to pay, this will be the same for any of the EEC countries.

Not 100% sure be i think that's wright.

Think you missed the boat there. your a couple of weeks to late.

Sounds a nightmare judging what Yellow tr was saying, if buying a Countach or Diablo that's a lot of cash,

Wouldn't want to be travelling round Italy with that sort of money , If you need a body guard let me know,

only 5ft 5" but got a big double barrel upstairs. bandit

I've had some Lamborghini parts on order since late September and what with skeleton staff due to Covid, another lock down in Italy

and the factory having a major flood just before Christmas looks like i could be driving there to collect my bits if and when Boris

lets us out, banghead

Was looking forward to drive though Tuscany's sun- soaked vine yards rather than winter rain and snow though i need

the parts now.

Thats whats keeping me going! Regardless of whats going on in the World its that time of year when its grotty in the UK you think of the open dry roads of Italy. I found a place near Milan who store your car and make sure its looked after and ready for use. You fly in when you want and use all year round. Not the same level of speed camera fear either over there.

Terrible sense of direction, get lost going to Bournemouth. Thought while i'm there would be rude not to

dip my toe's in the Med. no rush to get back just in case i get locked in again.

We had a road trip planned last Spring but it never happened.driving

If visiting on a regular basis would save a long drive , nice to know they can be trusted .

Every time i think about leaving a car at a storage /car park facility i can't help thinking about the valet parking
