We recently switched to Vodafone for our broadband, but I'm not particularly impressed with their broadband performance.
Can anyone please advise whether the speed I've just obtained (wifi) from 'speedtest' is considered good or poor?

Thanks.

What speed were you promised/expecting?

Is it 4G broadband or wired?

Thanks, that reading was from wifi.
I'll dig out the promised specs, but I think it was one of their more expensive packages that came with Apple TV+

Pretty sure this is our package, if so I guess it's underperforming though these will me there maximum figures that they quote...

Their lower spec package is more like what we are actually getting..

If you want a reliable answer you need a wired connection to the router. They didn't promise how fast your wifi would be, they promised how fast the connection to your router would be.

And yes, that's below what they quoted, but over wifi it's not worth talking to them about.

Thanks, I'll shove an ethernet cable into my MacBook and give it another go...

That's not crazy fast but it should be plenty fast enough, 25 Mbps is recommended to stream 4k video, and 5Mbps for 1080p HD.

What are you using that seems laggy? Could be a device not working properly, or it could be the site you're connecting to struggling.

If you download the 'Vodafone Broadband' app, that will tell you what sync speed you're getting.

Obviously the more devices you have connected and the further you are from the cabinet (assuming FTTC) will also affect your speed.

Do you have the Vodafone app, it used to be able to do a line test, if below their guarantee your bill would be reduced until fixed.

Check your line capability at https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADS...

If the VDSL High figures are around 40ish then what you're getting is as good as the line will currently support. Little point paying for a 63Mb service if your line can't deliver better than 38Mb.

My line for comparision:

That speed may be all your line can support. Any of the line checkers will give you an estimate:

Thanks for that, it would appear my line isn't capable of getting much quicker than what we are getting, so I guess thats fair.

Thankfully the faster package we are on is the same price as the slower package, so nothing lost for now...

If you go on the app, you can troubleshoot and then report, they usually give you 15% off next bill as well.

That's good to know as the router failed recently, no wifi for over a day, though wired connection was fine. Eventually resetting it finally worked after a few attempts. I did a temporary fix by connecting an access point that a neighbour lent me.

I was in a similar position to the OP, vodafone could only give us 50 on the top package.

Pressed the speed promise claim button several times a month and never once got the the discount applied and the speed never improved.

Wasn't the end of the world as I was still getting 15meg more than the lower package for only a couple of quid more.
At least until I renewed and they barred us from the faster package due to the previous speed promose claims and their inability to support the promised speed.

I live in North Dorset, pay for 500 mbps but often get over 1gbps which is very fast I guess, on paper. The reality is I don't feel like it's any benefit over when I had 35-40 mbps. It was plenty.

I jumped to Vodafone from EE when my EE contract was up because we had just had the street ripped up for Gigafast and wanted it.

EE was giving me 66 on an upto 76 package, Vodafone 38 on upto 76 package. Pressed the troubleshoot every month and got a discount every month.

Now on Vodafone Gigafast 200 and getting a steady 205down, 216up

I agree.

I have gigabit speeds with FTTP but have reduced my package to 50Mbps. There's no difference in usage for me - web pages take the same time to load. I don't download anything, just a normal user who streams films.
