2011 535d M-Sport - few queries before buying...
Discussion
Evening all - I’ve been offered a 2011 535d with 110k for a smidge under £5k, which I believe is quite cheap. (I’m doing some work for an older guy who’s just been advised by DVLA that he can no longer drive after an illness, and he’s offered me the car by way of payment, if I want it).
Not fully sure on service history yet, but wondering if there are any common issues I should be aware of (thinking along the same lines as timing chain on the 20d engines).
Should I be looking at changing the gearbox and diff oils? I know BMW say it’s lifetime but ZF say every 60k. I have a local gearbox specialist a call today and he said not to bother if I have no issues currently, said he sees more issues just after gearbox has been serviced than any other time.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

That seems extraordinarily cheap so proceed with caution unless you can guarantee provenance.
The blank that sits on the left hand side, where the steering wheel on a LHD would go, can leak and needs sorting - £200 or so.
ZF8 needs oil changes that a good gearbox specialist can do - £500.
Headlights can leak and cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. You can dry them out by dismantling the front end. New lights, if you go OEM or similar - £1200.
Other than that it is usual servicing etc.

mines just had another gearbox service at 180k. In the history there was a handwritten note to say it had been done at 160k but no receipt etc so I had it done again for piece of mind. expect to pay from 4-500 depending on where in the country you are.
at 5k id take it mate. can always sell on and not lose anything if its not for you (assuming you're in the position to be able to buy it in the fist place). Great cars, love mine.

Hi pal
I have a 640d, same engine and shares a few of the issue as the 535d
The yellow grommet that is the common problem can be changed by yourself, it’s £40 from bmw.
I had my gearbox serviced about 3k after I bought it, it’s coming up to 80k now. Noticeable smoother change afterwards.
There’s loads of info available on the Facebook groups.
If the car is straight, that is an absolute steal, if you don’t want it, pass his details my way 😬
Kind regards
Angelo
