I'm keen on the Bamford Rose exhaust manifolds for the v12 Vantage. I was wondering if those that have had them fitted could comment on the increase in noise both within and externally .
As a reference, I have the secondary cat delete and run the car mainly with the exhaust valves open, but I do like the fact that with them closed the noise level drops nicely when cruising on the motorway.

I've only changed exhausts once when I swap a standard exhaust for a Miltek one on an Audi RS2 and I immediately regretted this as the resulting booms within the cab spoilt the car completely .

( when covid allows it would be good to take a run out in a modified one )

Good post. I'm in the same position (also with secondary de-cat) and have been wondering if this mod would ruin the car's ability to cruise along in refined peace.

The trick is to keep the valved back box. Mine's a V8S rather than a V12, so not directly comparable, but with BR manifolds and high flow cats it is nicely loud with valves open but very quiet on the motorway with valves closed. I control my valves via the Sport button on the dash which has been repurposed and it makes it very easy to chose exactly what I want.

I'm interested in this too, mine is running very rough on start up and I'm thinking of the cat ingestion potential issue

Look forward to reading responses

Would happily re install secondary 200 cell cats as part of the upgrade

With the 3 way switch on the middle setting (full loud), there is no drone inside. You do hear the exhaust all of the time however, and if I’m honest, its not making the best sound when pottering about in 30 zones. Its not an overly pleasant noise to me at these speeds, just exhaust noise for the sake of it, but no drone. I tend to leave it in its ‘factory’ setting unless i know i can use the upper reaches of the power band.

Extend the throttle however, and it sounds better and better - it has a slightly more hollow tone to it, less beefy than standard but more tuneful to these ears - halfway house to a Ferrari V12 in my opinion.

From what I’ve been told it sounds epic from outside - on a Wales run last year, i had to lead a pack of 80s 911s briefly as the leaders phone/satnav packed in. Each time i redlined it, the driver of the car behind me and the one behind him thought there was a superbike on their shoulder, it emits a lovely higher pitched howl above 5500 in 2nd and 3rd.

Factory mode doesn’t sound too bad actually - the exhaust changes gives it a nice burble on the over-run with increase in tunefulness above 3750-4000. Select Sport in Factory mode, you get the same as ‘’full loud’, but what i believe is the added zing of the Sport map. Rev matching near roundabouts certainly makes the revs zip up and down quicker.

As ever with the V12V, its louder outside than it is inside. So people are turning heads to see what’s coming, before I’d expect them to if that makes sense, especially in full loud.

Quiet mode for when I’m in close proximity to home only....

If you’re ever near Woking and we can both prove we’ve been vaccinated, I’d happily take you for a spin.

Cornershop - thanks for the reply and the (post covid ) offer . I must try before i buy - I don't want that sinking feeling I had the first time I drove the RS 2 . And this is considerably more expensive.

I currently have 2 modes ( i.e. car is standard ) that are switchable off the remote from Clive . 1 is always loud , 2 is factory ( i.e. valves open at set revs , lower when in sport mode ) .
What's the 3rd mode ?

Would you say " quiet ", i.e. valves closed, is similar to the standard exhausts?

Perhaps we could push for a group buy smile

3 modes on the BR switch they install discretely under the edge of the centre console trim.

1) everything closed - actually feels pretty restricted performance wise so I think more to it (will re-read the BR thread!)
2) Full loud - All valves open, but I believe without Sport mode ECU map which adds zippier throttle.
3) Factory mode, need to use Sport mode for full on exhaust and ECU map, otherwise valves remain closed until close to 4K rpm

I had a secondary decat and I loved the sound that the car made. I then went for BR primary decat but left the standard manifolds on and put back the standard secondary cats.
I love the sound it now makes. Still completely Aston and not shrill or any higher pitch tone. I would describe it as very similar to when the car had just the secondary decat but slightly better. Three way switch is the final icing on the cake.
The car definitely picks up better and seems more urgent and of course no worries about CAT ingestion.

I thought the BR " top shelf" system was full titanium with equal lenght headers to a new rear box?

Would hate to lose that AM growl.....

No mention of any of that on their website - maybe you were looking at a competitor?

Stainless manifolds and std back box with high flow secondary cats I think .
I hate to think how much a Ti manifold would cost ...

About £15k at a guess ;-)

When I removed the primary cats for tubular manifolds, there was a new "bark" from the exhaust note, even though I had installed 200 cell secondary cats in place of my decat pipes. My best description would be an increase "rasp" from the exhaust tone. I kept the switchable fuse 22 mod to keep it all subdued at night.

I am also considering the BR kit (tubular manifolds and 200-cell cats). In terms of the additional "rasp" you mentioned, are the 200-cell secondaries the BR version that now seem to include an additional baffle, or another version? Keen on insuring against the dreaded cat ingestion and will take the extra power, but don't want to lose the Aston sound...

8Tech didn’t fit BR products I don’t believe.

I think you still have the choice of baffled or non baffled cats - Mike’s recommendation was for baffled cats with tubular manifolds.

I have the BR "peak" manifold option and the cats.

There is no drone and the sound is lovely!

Correct, I installed the DAE modified tubular manifolds with 200 cell cats. No idea what a baffled cat is, but probably one that barks? Pun there somewhere.
I cannot see cat ingestion from cats as far away as the secondary cat position, and presumably, aftermarket performance cats are stainless core and not ceramic anyway.
Just gutting the primary cats will not make a particularly smooth flow through the expansion chamber, but will at least significantly reduce backpressure. The sudden expansion into the empty cat chamber will slow the exhaust flow which will then need to compress again, to accelerate to get out of the chamber.

Of course I believe my option I took is best......thats why I did it, but if you are going to the extent of removing and refitting those manifolds, then I would go for a proper tubular system like the Quicksilver, or for less money, the DAE solution.

Does anyone know the current price for the manifolds and secondary cats - its not on their website ?

Also has anyone had the inlet cams changed and if so is it worth doing ?

The rear box aspect is mentioned in one of the BR videos.
It is the video which features one of our contributors in his V8VS, very skilfully controlling a launch slide to avoid a fire extinguisher, in the opening and closing scenes.

Mike favours the V8VS, or V12V back box.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JshVlIBdII

This video is about the V8 car, but perhaps there is another one about the V12.
So many videos now, an index might be helpful.

From my post In the Br thread - quoting Mike:
“ However, and as a second stage mod. It’s far better to remove the primary cats and fit the 200 cell secondary cats at supplied / fitted / inc vat £2750. There will be a circa 30bhp power gain, a slight / nice noise increase and remove the risk of this.....

(Link to BR decat / cat particle ingestion vid): https://youtu.be/kiCerrUQRGM

Or the third stage / the Bamford Rose headline modification of high-lift inlet cams, bespoke made exhaust manifolds, 200 cell cats which is circa +80 BHP @ £8000* inc vat and fitting.”

Or, £6500 fitted inc vat without cams (manifolds, 200 cpi secondaries, ECU tweak) -
