OK, I seem to have spent the best part of the weekend upside down with my head in each footwell burning my nose on my leadlight and cutting my hands trying to sus out how all my S3 dash is mounted. I can see how the main dash insert mounts, and have removed all six nuts but has anyone ever removed the four instrument surround as well??

yup still got the scars
its a case of finding the bolts that hold it to the bulkhead. its not an easy job. even the mastic from the windscreen can stick it back. only way i found them was feeling about under the dash. ended up using a thin pair of glove liners to cut down on the scratches. there was four bolts on mine. two at each side. but i believe this can depend on the guy fitting it.
cheers
edited to say, try feeling up behind the guages, they should be held on with one nut each. also access is improved if you drop the stterng wheel (two large bolts free it)
