I drive about 30k miles a year so need a diesel. I'm currently running an early Mk5 Golf GT TDI (the precursor to the GTD). It's done over 177k miles and although in fine fettle it's starting to show its age.

I don't need a big car and like the compactness of the Golf. I need to be able to park in the street in London and not draw attention to the car. Auto would be nice but not essential. It would be nice to have adaptive cruise but I can live without it (the Mk5 doesn't even have normal cruise!).

A Mk7 GTD would be the obvious choice but I've also considered a BMW 225d M-Sport. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Cheers....

I recently had a 125D M Sport. Great fun, very capable car whilst still achieving 50+ MPG

A Volvo V40 D4 Inscription should be in budget for a newish low mile example.

I think they’re around 190 bhp and 300 lb ft from memory. Plenty of autos with adaptive cruise out there..
