My man cave is reaching completion and I need to rustle up the last few pieces of the puzzle.

It is not a huge room @ 4.6m x 2.6m. I am having my indoor cycling (Zwift) set up at one end of the room and my decks, vinyl etc. is being set up at the other end. I've had my Technics and vinyl stashed away for 10 years and now is the time to bring it back out.

I am looking for advice on an amp and monitor speakers. I will have 3 pairs of speakers in there that I would like to be independently switchable as I will have different ones/combinations on, depending on what current activity is in the room. Does a single unit exist that can can have 3 pairs of switchable speaker outputs or does it require 2 amps? I have 2 amps already, and have used the set up before, but I'm looking to update or modernise and minimise the amount or wiring etc.

Equally, I have a pair of Jamo Compact 90s that still produce a great sound, but I would like something a little smaller to wall mount, but give deep, punchy bass. Budget for these would be £200 max (I've done my conkers building the thing) and preferably in white as they will blend into the room better. I've looked at all sorts, but would like some real world experience.

Thanking you all kindly

This might do what you need - I don’t know if you can run more than one pair of speakers at a time however
Need to be careful with running speakers in parallel as it reduces the resistance and can damage some amps

What mixer have you got? My technics plug into my pioneer XDJ RX2, RX2 is directly linked to Rokit 5 speakers via Balanced XLR connection. You can also link up secondary speakers via booth output so you can control both sets via mixer. Think most high range pioneer mixers (and prob Allen & Heath) have this option

Edit to say I also wanted to cut down on wiring hence the switch to powered speakers/no separate amp.

Active Yamaha HP5 but £189 each?

Seems like an excuse for gratuitous photos of my man cave below...

I like the HP5 (in fact all the Yamaha active range), good monitor for production but found them lacking grunt, then again they are monitor. I went for the rokits (also available in white) for the boom, they rip! Adam do some fab stuff but £££

They Yamahas are nice...just pair them up with the HS8S subwoofer for the extra grunt wink

Can't see past Rokit's for this sort of thing.

Thanks for the advice and there are some good looking setups there.

I probably should have stipulated earlier, but they need to be passive in order to minimise the amount of wiring/plugs required as I have run speaker cable in the walls to hide as much away as possible.

They will be wall mounted at pretty much ear level.

Couldn't wait any longer and ran a test with a pair of Jamo D 265s and some Eltax floor standers. The neighbours are going to love me!!

Hi All

Years ago i had some Technics (30 yrs plus) and would like to explore getting some decks for a bit of fun at home. I see the prices are high for the all in ones. So my question is how good are the DJ controllers using the software? something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-DJ-DDJ-200-Smart-...

or this

https://www.thedjshop.co.uk/dj-equipment/dj-contro...

Like i said its for home use. How easy is the software to use? Will a 48 year old who is used to sticking vinyl on a deck struggle to get the most out of it ?

Thanks

BTW the budget is £300 max as this is for a bit of fun.

The pioneer DDJ controllers are pretty fun but I’m not into the whole gamification element that comes with them, eg laptops using rekordbox/serato with massive waveforms, music libraries etc. People spend too much time looking at screens than listening and creating.

I’ve got a pioneer XDJ rx2 which can be used as a controller but I’ve only ever used it in standalone DJ mode with USBs sticks to replicate CDJs and actual DJ’ing, it’s certainly more satisfying. Cheap controllers can’t do this. I’ve got my two 1210s input into the phonos so it can also act as a pretty mean mixer, again something you can’t do with basic controllers. You can get the original rx1 used for a bit more outlay than a DDJ or bite the bullet and get the RX2, I’d go down those routes personally.
