I have a 2017 Leon FR 1.4 all in standard trim. Current BHP is 150, however a chip can boost this by 44, plus a K&N filter a couple more. The chip should cost about £350, the filter about £60. Anyone done similar, is it worth it or should I just leave it as standard?

Sell it and buy the 1.8 or the 2.0 ?

better suspension and bigger brakes as well as the extra bhp

Knew someone would say that! But no, I won’t be selling it for a good number of years yet.

I'd certainly recommend a remap, but leave it at that.

I have the 1.4 TSFI 140 CoD lump in my 2014 Audi A3. I was looking for a 2.0T or S3, but bought the 1.4 because it was just a well spec'd car with good history at a price where I could buy it from savings.

To be honest, I was really impressed with the engine as standard - and it's even better with a fairly conservative 170hp/220lb.ft map that I flashed onto it after a few weeks. driving

I guess it depends on your priorities. If you'll appreciate the extra torque but only occasionally need the power then I think a map is worth it on this kind of engine. If your needs extend further, then it'll be better to trade it in.

The chip I’m looking at is an extra 44bhp and 73Nm of torque. With an air filter it should take it to near 200bhp and 320Nm of torque, which would be nice. Not interested in trading up in the slightest so that’s not an option.

Remap will be good but don't waste money on the filter, it will make zero difference.

Just to close this thread went for a remap in the end. £350 for an extra 50ish horse which I had done this afternoon.

Thats quite a big upgrade as the norm is around the 175 mark. Out of interest are you going to inform.your insurance company?

As somebody who has been involved in tuning SEAT's for the last 15 years (including working with SEAT Sport BTCC/WTCC and Cupra Racing) dont waste your money on the panel filter! offer 0 gains at all.

Also hope the remap was done by somebody decent and not either a man in a van or a company who simply flash a file they have got off the internet! A lot of those about now.

So glad there’s a tide sweeping against air filter ‘upgrades’. Saves me bashing my head against the wall smile

When I first started out I had one fitted to my original MK4 Ibiza 1.4TDI with remap, I then fitted one to my Leon 2.0 FR TDI which was running Stage 2 tune, did some back to back rolling road runs one with paper filter and one with panel filter... 0 benefits at all across multiple runs.

If anything panel filters seem to let more fine sand particles through which in turn make a mess of the turbo.

All done. Unfortunately had to go with another company as my insurance wouldn't cover a percentage increase that large. New insurance £90 more, but got a £40 refund from the existing company with no cancellation fees as apparently it's not my fault their Ts&Cs won't underwrite my car any more.

The company has history in motorsport and VAG upgrades. I have a friend who does the same thing but unfortunately he was just too expensive but did recommend which remaps to go for.

Who done your remap if you don’t mind me asking? Not bad gains at all!

Get a remap and larger exhaust down pipe, some lowering springs and have fun!!!

Also some sort of performance intake to enhance sound and character...
