Agreed. The only answer
Just checked the classifieds - can't believe the price jump for a good Chimp vs last time I looked!
I'd also have to wander around a Merc SL55. I'm still drawn to a nice spec R230 like a moth to a flame.
One day I'll probably just do it, get badly burned and then have to convince at least one of my kids that uni really isn't all that...

Either car is going to need care and love in exchange for the occasional wallet bashing

I have a n/a 5.0 XK and the sound certainly ticks the V8 box - sounds great. I believe the 5.0 XKR had a much quieter superchargers than earlier 4.0s, so you still get the V8 gurgle coming through strongly.
Probably best looking of all of them and not bad to drive I hear. Do we think the.old.man image is passing away? Im no spring chicken at 47 however!

But with your budget, actually, I'd buy the Mustang, too. Manual gearbox wins every time in my book.

Which V8? Need to scratch the V8 itch? 25k to spend suggestions needed? Thinking of an XKR at the moment.
What do you want from a V8?The XKR is ok, but IMO there are better cars at doing the "V8 thing" for the money. And really I think something OHV is very different experience to any OHC one.

The XKR is a very good choice & hard to beat:

C63 AMG.
For that money you can get a very good condition 6.2 naturally aspirated - possibly a PPP with a few extra horses, but either way an awesome car.
They're auto so that may discount it, but the soundtrack is ( in my opinion) the best of the v8s. the guttoral bowel moving rumble is extraordinary.
Not much to go wrong really either once you're post facelift, which your budget will easily do.
Look for a 12-14 reg.
May be biased.

(also for sale if you're interested)
