I promise I’ve googled to the Max, but I can’t find a definitive answer.

I’m on the committee of a club. A few years ago a member independently set up a Facebook page for the club (which was very welcome), which now has in excess of 1,000 members.

Very sadly, the originator of the group passed away a couple of years ago, and we’d like to gain some form of ‘control’ over the group rather than have to set up a new one. I have a horrible feeling we’re going to have to end up asking his widow for a death certificate in order to do so, and for obvious reasons if we can possibly avoid that it would be ideal.

Any tips?

Can someone not just open his computer up, login to FB and add you as an admin for it (or even easier; phone)

At a guess I’d imagine that his account will be left logged in on his computer.

Anyone can order a copy of a death certificate for 11 quid, if you get stuck. It’s a public record.

I suspect the OP was wanting to avoid asking next of kin to do this for them.

Or, as this was "a couple of years ago" does the computer still exist?

Was the originator the only administrator (or person with FB administrative) rights?

If you go to your group - it will have a number (in the URL) associated with it. Modify the URL below (add the number) and look to see who is an administrator - it the originator is the only chap - I can't help.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/<stick your group number in here but with out the angled brackets>/members

Oh dear. Maybe his missus has a less mawkish and far more pragmatic view of death than the PH ph, as it were. He may find it's absolutely painless.
