Once the engine gets hot won't always tickover.
Sometimes, when stopped at lights or in traffic, the revs drop and the engine cuts out.
Starts ok tho'
Any ideas gents?
And to be PC ladies!!:(

I have a similar problem...when the temp gets to 95 the fans cut in and the engine stalls...it starts straight away but i have to keep my foot slightly on the revs to compensate the fans running.
I have just brought a Mod-Wise dual thermostat cooling kit to control the fans and the provide power to the fans without diverting from the engine.

I shall get the kit put on tonight and let you know if this cures the problem!!!

I had a similar problem, tried cleaning the stepper motor but to no avail. Turned out the stepper had died. £70 later and all was sorted...

Nuggs,
How do you check whether the stepper has 'died'?

Check its pulse

Chris - I had the same problem on my Griff, after much searching it turned out to be the amplifier on the coil - might be worth a try.

In my case, the symptoms were all pointing towards stepper problems but cleaning it didn't do the trick. In the end it was into Austec, who confirmed that the stepper was an ex-stepper and if it wasn't screwed into the plenum, it would have been pushing up daisies...

Could be just the throttle pot needs adusting. Our Griff did this and the throttle pot setting was way out. 5 minutes later problem solved (by Power and not me).

Hi Chaps,

just had a very similar problem, Griff would idle bad ranging from 1 - 2k and then periodically die. Cleaned everything and then stumbled across the section in the bible about the coolant temperature sensor, replaced it (£7) and it runs like a dream now!! how come there are all these bits that effect other parts!!?? The sensor just tells the ECU the temp and is different from the one for the temp gauge.

Easy job to do and for £7 worth it!! You can get the part from a landy dealer!

The sensor is located on the engine block, behind the distributor cap, in front of the fuel injectors. It is a push on connector and the connector is a small black box type. I removed it using my 19mm wheel brace. And you dont lose any fluid so its a nice easy quick job!!

Email me if the description isnt clear and i will mail you some piccies.

(Strictly speaking the place that it's screwed into is the water jacket at the front of the inlet manifold, not the engine block.)
