I've just seen a tweet from an NHS employee who extended her shift by 2 hours and so was late getting back to her car by 32 minutes. Consequently she's incurred a £100 parking charge from a company named Carflow. She appealed and offered to pay for the excess time but her appeal was rejected.
I'm nothing to do with the case but I do find it infuriating that Carflow are making the lives of NHS employees even more difficult than they need to be at the moment. What are her options, and what would be the consequences of her refusing to pay?

Yeah, bloody doctors, nurses and pharmacists expecting special treatment from upstanding parking management companies just because they've worked longer hours (of their own volition mind you, nobody *asked* them to) to support the sick in a global pandemic. Who the f

None really, but it depends on circumstances doesn't it? And I think the circumstances of the last year have been a little out of the ordinary. If there's a big fire, you don't go round putting parking tickets on the fire engines.320d is all you need said:

I would struggle for anyone to justify the Parking company's actions.
From the tweet I assumed it was a hospital staff car park, I could well be wrong. If it was a regular, non-hospital, Pay and Display then yes, I would expect them to be less likely to be lenient. However, I'm pretty sure I've overstayed in a P & D by half an hour on some occasions and not been caught out. I would struggle for anyone to justify the Parking company's actions.

I just felt the treatment dished out by the parking management company in the OP was harsh, but I don't know why I should have expected any different. Never mind. Malbec's nearly finished, goodnight all!

Then we won’t have to base our assessments of what happened on just partial information, opinion and prejudice.

Just to clarify incase of any confusion - my reply wasn't aimed / directed at you but the poster I quoted who said suck it up. They started the thread i linked, as it was their partner that was caught speeding, and at one point asked if there was mitigation for it because covid / key worker / nurse.I just felt the treatment dished out by the parking management company in the OP was harsh, but I don't know why I should have expected any different. To be honest, doesn't this highlight the real problem that nurses have to park in the P&D car park which is a bit st.
Certainly seems to be the way things are.
Kendal county council voted to remove the parking disks for Child protection social workers last year to save the council money, however the disks are still given to the councillors for use by them and their partners (free parking for shopping trips, well its essential, how would councillors have fresh avocado at a weekend!).
I bet the NHS trust executive team still have free parking.

Quite.t.When I got one of these (parkingeye i think it was) I just ignored it and nothing ever came of it. Understand this is not the best course of action these days though as they sometimes do pursue them to court, although what percentage of cases they do this with I don't know. If they did take it to court would you be liable for extra charges? If not and you had opportunity to settle for the same amount then I'd just ignore.
If the company jumps through various legal hoops then it can enforce the extra charges, but the companies operate on a mass mailing basis and they not infrequently make mistakes which can defeat their claims.
A polite letter to whichever organisation has the car park might induce a waiver of the charges. No harm trying.
