expansion bottle...or lack of

I have had a look at a few pictures of other chimaeras and i think mine is lacking an expansion bottle. Most pictures i have seen have a second aluminium bottel bolted to the cross members of the chassis.

I have got a large aluminium bottle on the nearside of the car, bolted to the engine, which has the otter switch at the bottom...the bottom tube then feeds to the radiator...and the outlet from the rad goes straight to the engine...should the rad outlet go to an expansion bottle first and then on to the engine or is mine right???

The MK2 Chims have and expansion bottle and a swirl tank. IIRC the early models only had a combined tank.

hi andy,im not 100% sure but i think pre serp. engines didnt have a expansion tank but had a blue cap on the ally tank near the engine(swirl tank)but if yours is a serp engine i think you should have 2

Mine is a 94 so i take it i have an early one!!!

I was beginning to think it was the washer bottle as i have brought a mod wise cooling kit and it says to lift the washer bottle out of the way for fitting sensors to the outlet hose of the rad...bit hard as my washer is mounted in the front offside wing!!!

my car is a 96,my washer bottle is hidden in front of the rad under the bodywork with just the filler cap exposed
