Friends, I have £2K to spend on both a Laptop and Desktop. They both need to look slick and both need to have respectable specs. Apples are a no no, so I thought of Sony. But they are very pricey.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Alienware make some nice looking kit.

There are some lovely cases out there now though so as far as asthetics are concerned I would be looking at self build on the desktop and then a flash off the shelf laptop.

If you want lots of style (if a bit in your face with it), I've always been a fan of alienware

If Apple design floats your boat but you don't want to buy apple, then Avaratec seem to do nice gear - this one is an "ultra portable" but they do others too.

I run a Sony VGN-A397XP, which looks the nuts, and has a 17" widescreen superblack display, but that was £2k on its own - do you need a desktop if you've got a power laptop?

Just out of interest why are Apples a No No with you?

I have a Dell D810 laptop, with a 15" screen that runs at 1920x1200, has a Centrino M770 prcessor and 1GB RAM. Doesn't look too great, but with the DDock port replicator, will power 2 external monitors. It's damn fast and that with 1 or 2 monitors, will come in under your budget!

Dell are doing a (relatively) new XPS range of desktops and laptops.

As will all things Dell, you can spec to your own budget, so see what you can do.

Alternatively if you have an idea of what you want the desktop for and a budget and an idea of how you want it to look I could stick something together for you.

I got myself a Rock Pegasus Ti notebook last week after my Toshiba bit the dust leaving me stranded....

It got a Gold Award in What Laptop but what really sold me was they do a pink painted lid option for cancer research which really tipped me over the fence with a history of cancer in my family it only seemed the right way to go.

I think it looks pretty sweet with the pink! Only thing is you will endure lots of Gay comments.

I recieved top notch service from these guys especially as I was in such a pickle and needed one ASAP.....
