N47 EGR delete from ECU and MPPS V16 ECU Flasher
Discussion
Hi
I'm hoping to remove the EGR from the ECU of my Alpina D3 biturbo N47 and hence i wondered if anyone has got any comments or advice on using the £15.99 MPPS kit thats available on flea bay.
I'm willing to pay someone to do this but keep being asked to pay £299 for what should be 20 minutes work if you know what your doing.
Are there any better tools available to do this
Thanks

Just so you're aware (as a lot of people seem not to be), if an MOT tester spots any missing or "modified" emissions kit, you get a fail. They're not allowed remove any covers from the engine mind. This change came in in 2019 (or there abouts).
8.2.2.1. Exhaust emission control equipment
You only need to check components that are visible and identifiable, such as diesel oxidation catalysts, diesel particulate filters, exhaust gas recirculation valves and selective catalytic reduction valves.
If a diesel particulate filter has clearly been cut open and rewelded, you should reject it unless the vehicle presenter can show evidence that there was a valid reason to cut it open, such as for filter cleaning.
Defect Category
(a) Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer missing, obviously modified or obviously defective Major
(b) An induction or exhaust leak that could affect emissions levels Major
(c) Evidence that the diesel particulate filter has been tampered with Major

From experience most MOT stations won't bother to investigate unless the car doesn't pass the emissions test and at fast idle test the EGR is closed on most engines. The ECU light may also alert a tester.
The main reason to remove the EGR is due to the heat exchanger failure (common fault) and to stop the car engine inlet manifold being clogged and reducing efficiency and using more fuel.
The main pollution control equipment (DPF) will remain in place and functioning

Thanks BF, i have fitted a DS blanking kit thats fairly good compared to others but just need the flash the ECU with a modified file to stop the light coming on etc.
Thats where i need some support
endtuning.com - I doubt his prices are of the magnitude you quoted earlier.Thats where i need some support
Thanks BTCC, i see you have a BT Alpina, is this the 3 litre or the 2 litre. I have issues with my car not having as much grunt and hence wondered if you can recommend a reliable person to do the re map and check the turbos are operating correctly. I'm based in either Portsmouth or near Exeter in devon. What did they charge for the delete and remap
Thanks
Thanks

Hi the garage I used with a BMW specialist up north in the Stockport area - will be a bit of a drive but worth it.Thanks
Carried out a host of work including the timing chain, new vacuum pipes and boost pressure switches.
Mine wasn't running as smooth i.e a smooth transition of turbo boost through out the rev range.
Turned out I need new inlet manifold, boost pipes and switches.
Car runs and drive like a dream now! True Alpina in the sense!
On the Alpina Register these guys are highly regarded: http://www.bmrperformance.co.uk/
Also a bit closer for yourself.

Don't come to us then, we failed a VW last week on the EGR being missing. The main reason to remove the EGR is due to the heat exchanger failure (common fault) and to stop the car engine inlet manifold being clogged and reducing efficiency and using more fuel.
