I've set everything to record to SD but very occasionally, it still records to the internal memory. Never used to do this until maybe 2 months ago. Any thoughts/suggestions?
Xperia XA1 if relevant.

I don't know the history of the XA1 or it's age, or your situation, but is it worth upgrading to something with internal memory only?

I had the Z2 and it was difficult differentiating between the two storage "pots".

Going to a Huawei P20 made it all go away.

Is it writing directly to the sd card, or does it write to internal storage whilst recording, then move across once finished?

If it’s the latter, the app may have crashed/not closed properly before getting the chance to move the file.

Or maybe the card is starting to fail?

My phone, Honor 9 Lite running Android 9, usually writes photos & videos to the SD card, which is set as default storage, but occasional stores in internal memory instead. I can't pin down why this happens.

Just thought it would be nice to have a removable memory card as well as the standard memory!

Food for thought! Will have to investigate. Thanks.

It worked perfectly today for 3 videos in a row; in fact yesterday's videos were also fine and I'm also regularly "reading" from the card as I have all my ebooks and audio files on that card. How would I know if the card is starting to fail?

When it stops reading/writing I guess, by which point it's probably too late.

I don't think you can test it tell you when it's likely to fail, & testing it could even finish it off.

Is it an old card? The more you write to it, the shorter the life span (generalising a bit, but you know what i mean).

Oh, right. Maybe that's it. It's about 5 years old.

Worth a try, they're cheap enough these days.

Just make sure you buy a reputable brand from a reputable company.
