Pixel 3a battery drain?
Discussion
I had a thread going a while ago where I gave my 3a to my partner and I got a Galaxy A71. Since then, I have had my 3a back (about a week ago) factory reset, all fresh etc... The phone is only about 9 months old still, but the battery life now seems much worse than when I had it. I usually got an easy 6-7 hours of 'screen on time' to a charge and now it looks like i'll be lucky to get 5 hours.
The only changes I've made are that I now use a mi band with it which is always paired, but I wasn't aware they were supposed to drain much battery?
I'm at a bit of a loss really as I'd like to keep using it, but if the battery is going to be that much worse than before, I may just go back to my Samsung.
Any ideas or related experiences?

How old is the phone?
Battery drain was the main reason I upgraded from my Pixel 2 to the 5. The P2 was 3 years old and probably had 2/3rd the battery life as when new. Try downloading Accubattery which will tell you how much charge your battery is holding.
Also go into battery in settings and check if there's anything using up more power than it should

It is 9 months old. Nothing out of the ordinary in battery stats. Just seems far lower than before.Battery drain was the main reason I upgraded from my Pixel 2 to the 5. Odd to have dropped by that amount of screen time in so short a period. I'm assuming the mi band uses low energy bluetooth?
Has it moved up to Android 11 since you used it last? Sometimes older handsets can't cope as well with new OS versions.
Regarding killing apps in the background. Let the OS do that. The newer versions of Android tend to do a better job

It has moved up to Android 11 since, then but most reviews seems OK for it with that. Especially since it had a factory reset too.
It is really frustrating. No change in usage by me at all.
Did the battery drain issues with the TuneIn Radio app from late last year get resolved? Obviously not applicable if you don't use that app!
It usually takes 3-4 discharge and charge cycles and 3-4 days of typical app usage before the OS will adapt to your usage and obtain the best levels of battery management. Or at least it always has done in my experience in recent years, having done a few resets in that time.

Today is the first day I'm 'properly' using it really.
I'll give it a full week and then decide.
Good shout though, when I first got this, the battery got better over a week or two IIRC.
Wasn't sure if it applied to a standard factory reset though?
If I can get it up to 6 hours, I'll be happy.
To be fair, I am using Bluetooth more this time around with Spotify in the car (30 mins on my way to work), which probably used a good chunk? And also more calls now I'd say.

The thing that throws me off with the battery on this is that even when I first had it, the first 15% give or take would drain much, much faster than the rest. I'll give it a full week and then decide.

My charge cycle today is now at 20% and I have 4 hours and 50 minutes of 'screen time'. So it has improved from earlier by a lot, but still definitely lower than what I was getting previously.
I'm hoping that after a few days it'll settle a bit.
My usage isn't always ideal for phones really, I have no reception at home, which doesn't help and during the day (at work) I am on 4G constantly whenever I am on the phone, so I suppose I tax it a lot more than others might?
Fingers crossed!
I really hope so, otherwise it is such a good phone still, I overall prefer it to my Galaxy A71, it is smoother, gets faster updates, better camera and better speakers. The only real downsides are the screen is significantly worse and the battery life isn't quite as good (even when I originally had it)

Is the battery conditioning thing for each app turned on (cant remember what its called, its too early)?
I like to turn developer options on and in there, there is 3 options to speed up, turn off or even slow down the animations. Turning them off speeds the snappyness of menu's up. Wont help with battery issues but IMHO makes Android nicer to use.

I've got battery optimisation turned on for most apps.I like to turn developer options on and in there, there is 3 options to speed up, turn off or even slow down the animations. Turning them off speeds the snappyness of menu's up. Wont help with battery issues but IMHO makes Android nicer to use.
I always set it to 0.5 animation speeds, I prefer that to 0 as I find that a bit harsh to watch
Little update - battery seems better today. On track to get my usual 6 hours of 'screen time' (i didn't stream any music today which probably helps) This is all on 4G so far, so will improve when I am at home, back on wifi. So overall, it is looking up! Fingers crossed it stays this way, I'll probably shift the Galaxy A71 on for a couple of hundred quid to get something back!
