Death and old medicines

When someone dies and they had a lot of medicines (Warfarin etc) is there a service that takes them for recycling?

Return them to the pharmacy for disposal.

Once they have left the pharmacy they cant be reused but a pharmacy will dispose of them correctly.

No, not at all. Pharmacies have a contract with official waste disposal contracts for returned medication.

Drugs can’t be reused sadly, even if the packets unopened, there’s a reason for it but it slips my mind right now,
You’ll need to drop them at a pharmacy (can be any pharmacy) and they’ll dispose of them.

Pretty much because they can't guarantee they haven't been tampered with as far as I know

Yeah just pack them all up and hand them back to the local pharmacy.
After my grandma passed away a few years ago I didnt need to buy paracetemol for the rest of the year from all the packs I found in her house shilst it was getting cleared.

Indeed. That's a pretty dim thing to do!

Most councils will collect medical waste including old medicines for free.

Water treatment is a very precise balance and can be disrupted if you're not careful. There can be various bio-cultures involved, and chemical processed so if you flush "active" ingredients there's a risk of disrupting the process. It's not quite as simple as filtering your poo through a pilliowcase, you'll be pleased to hear!
