For those who don't frequent GG.

Down a bit on performance compared to the 4S but expect real world will be < 5 seconds 0-60 and that's quite a £ saving? 80kWh battery should still offer 200 miles of range as well.

Not sure I like the color of the press model there - but hey, Porsche does like to do the occasional mad color.

As for the range, not sure what Porsche are publishing, but Matt Farah did a test of the 4S recently, and driven carefully (but not slowly), he managed just shy of 300 miles out of the 4S, 25% more than the EPA rating. Suspect the 2WD Taycan will do well, but as you mention, a real-world of 200-ish seems fair. Certainly makes a compelling story for a premium model.

My only concern? Extras. Add the basics and a couple of nice packages and we can be sure its going to be well above the 71k GBP base price. Porsche has a nasty habit of getting customers to spend a lot more than they planned to!

hehe

Funny story, in Europe they were obligated to deliver a charge cable with the vehicle.
But on the site they still stated the "111k EUR" start price, although you couldn't order it, it had a near 2k EUR (eek) "government mandated" charge cable when you did the ordering proces rofl. They were also not shy of telling it to you that it's the EU making the car more expensive than it should be.

Anyway, it's a great bit of kit and bringing the price down is of course good. It might even steal a higher end I Pace sale or two? scratchchin

Certainly on my radar to replace my I Pace - but I doubt it would be rear wheel drive version . I imagine the traction control light would be flashing all the time , hence the slow 0-60 time - it will likely feel quicker than the 0-60 suggests once it has traction .

Bloody hell.... thats sneaky. Give with one hand, take with the other... dont you just love governments!

Saw a Carwow video on the biggest increase in price of current cars - sounds odd, but basically, how much can you add to a base model in extras. Porsche appeared twice in the top 10 and the Macan was the worst. You can over DOUBLE the price of the car with extras.... thats insane!

I saw a video I think a decade ago that did a bit of a "competition" the dubious winner was a Porsche Boxster that, without engine upgrades, you could get from 45k to over 90k USD.

Errr, hang on.... just got the marketing email from Porsche about this:

$79,900 to GBP is around 60k.... I know that exchange rates are variable and specs will most likely be different, but thats a pretty big difference in my book. $79k looks good from a price point of view. I got to $75k for a BMW 540i with a few extras, so as a starting price, thats pretty competitive. Not sure how that compares in the UK at the moment.

And yes, $79k is the starting point, you can go up from there and spend big. Porsche does a great job of liberating people from their money!

Well, USD prices are always excluding VAT. So that might settle the difference?

Good point, but for California for first registration, the fees are right around $7k, but we really should factor in the $7500 federal tax credit you will get on first registration. Though to be honest, there is a $2k or so for California, but that doesnt count because the list price is over $60k!

But, 79k+7k is still approx 64k GBP. They make the damn things in Germany, so it has to be easier to get there AND the UK is one of the biggest markets for Porsche in general.

Coming in at just under £80K for the spec I would order.....So within 10% the price our X, in fact within £5K!!!

Porsche ownership may be attainable than I had thought, I may even still have all my own teeth before I can park one in the garage smile

If I can PX the X for £45K, its 'just' another £35K on top, man maths says thats cheaper than buying a base Model 3.....must try really hard to resist visiting the local Porsche dealer.
