Seriously considering bidding on this. I’d definitely take it over a CSR

I'd love to send my 997 to the fella that did that 996 to take some weight out. Then paint mint green smile

That's nice, but the red bumpers make it look like it's been in a crash and the owners bought replacements from a scrap yard. It would be far nicer all one colour

The owner of that posts on here - I think it was in the 'Best Garage on PistonHeads' thread along with his very nice Alfa!

Yep. Thinking it’s CLR who posts on here. Really lovely dynamic details on the build. Might buy it and stick a wrap on it.

Wow

Carbon fibre panels but still has rear seats and thick carpets

Could you get it under 1000kg?

Its very expensive to do this properly. I priced up just the parts i.e. carbon rear quarter panels, OEM carbon front wings , OEM bonnet, roof. OEM decklid, carbon seats etc and was coming out at 60k euros just for the parts before labour. yikes

Maybe just me but it’s still as ugly as sin and looks like it has been crashed and repaired. Time doesn’t flatter the 996. Difficult to see why they didn’t begin with a 997, and while I know it is light, some focus on developing something that looks good is important.

A wrap would easily deal with the colour. It sits beautifully on the road and the spec is incredible. This isnt just a few bolt on bits and an engine rebuild, its a propper thing. Just look at the suspension work. Most components have been thrown away, re fabricated and sperical jointed. I've never seen a build like this before. It must be a lovely car to drive

Elsewhere the owner commented that he's spent something like €196,000. I'd imagine he did a lot of the work himself.

Many are still too ignorant to see past headlights which aren't the usual 911 round/oval but to me this is a car way beyond the level of the CSR builds and many of the restomod air cooled cars that go for silly money.

I hope it fetches a good price for Mr CLR.

This.

It's a bespoke build where engineering comes first, second, third and fourth, and the analogue driving experience is the point.

If you want to paint it green, and put in a rattan interior with potted plants and a coffee-maker, then you can do that too, but those sort of owners probably look down their nose at a 996.

I'd rattle-can it black and drive it to heaven and back. cloud9

(ps not having a go at you IMIA hehe )

Taking weight out is one thing. But to do it like this car is next level and makes an unbelievable difference to experience. I'd be light as a Macca and smaller too makes all the difference. I'm not surprised at the overall cost at all as the man hours involved even if doing a lot yourself are exhaustive. I'll carry on dreaming. May still do the paint though smile

Be a simple job to get the front and rear bumpers resprayed silver and you'd have a very nice focused weekend road car.

To me, this is better than a Singer because all of the development is entirely dynamic. Everything adds to the driving experience.
