In short. Trial of GPS device which automatically cuts out your car engine or applies the brakes when you exceed the speed limit.

I wonder if they'll start taxing home-owners on the length of time each day they stay in their home, as opposed to the council tax......

Lets face it, its not as barmy as replacing fuel duty with "pay as you drive"
The speed limiter idea is total rubbish IMO - lowest common denominator thinking.

They'll have to find another way to tax us then. If we all drive at the correct speed, no-one will get done for speeding and all that lovely revenue will be lost. Our cars will use less fuel as we will be driving slower, so oops, there goes some more tax as well!

All these GPS based taxing schemes are bollox as they ain't gonna retro fit them to every car that is already on the road.
Force introduce it in one year, 5-10 years down the line its in almost every car, retrofit it or ban all the others. lets face it, in 5 years GPS will be in almost every car anyhow, so will ECU managment that will allow this to be pluged in, almost there already.

Which I assume will be legislated agains so your car becomes illigal, no mot, no insurance, heafty penalties etc. This government isnt into loopholes when it can use a legeslative sledgehammer to crack a problem that doesnt exist.
I assume classics etc will end up exempt somewhat mebe thats the direction to go in.
Also it'll probably be blindingly obvious to anyone if a car doesnt have this fitted and is driving in traffic.
