What car to get next. EV?
Discussion
Hi
I have a Mini Cooper S on PCP, due to go back in a few months and I am pondering what to get next. Our main car is a 330D so that covers the long journeys or ones where we need lots of space, 530L roof box plus boot is ample storage.
We have a year old kid so a two seater is out of the question.
If I were to get something Petrol, it would likely be an M135i (not the new one) but my head is telling me I don't need something that is going to be more expensive to insure, cost money for VED and cost a fair amount in fuel.
The EV market seems to have picked up a little, I actually like the look of the e208 and there are some decent lease deals for £2k down and £260 a month for the GT version.
At the moment I do barely any miles as I am working from home but once we get back to normal, i will be doing 2-3 days in the office weekly which is a 40 mile round trip.
I am torn, do I go with my heart and get the M135i next (£15k ish used) despite the additional costs or do I get onboard with the EV and accept this is the future?
Realistically, my budget is £250-£300pm so the Tesla is out and I just don't like the look of the other EV's in the £30k market.

Based on everything you have said I would get the BMW, if necessary via a personal loan. As your mileage, and therefore petrol, won’t be high enough to cost a lot in fuel.
You aren’t getting the bonus of putting the EV through a company and by buying used you will no doubt have a bit of equity left when it comes time to change.

I’d also suggest the m135 over an EV. The m135 is a good car, you’ll have fun driving it. Electric cara are great but the novelty wears off after a day or two of driving one. In the not so distant future, EV will be the only choice. Best make the most of powerful petrol engines while you can!
The M135i won't cost you a lot especially if you're not using it also there are a whole load of cars that have lower running costs that can be bought for 15k, also remember you'd have to do 50k before an EV 208 (or any other EV) actually becomes cheaper to run than it's petrol equivalent.
Here are some other options for 15k:

335i this would be my pick over the 135i they handle just as well & are a nicer place to spend your time in.
