How do I make a value in an Excel cell appear on a website that I publish? Ideally live. Whatever is in the cell appears on the website. I've tried Google but the solutions are very convoluted.

So cell A1 = "10", how do I make "10" appear on a website, so that when cell A1 is updated, it updates the website. There must be a way.

Short answer: hire a web developer.

Okay, if you want a way to do it mainly within Excel.

You need to create a macro in excel, that publishes the sheet to HTML every time you update a cell.

Then you need to set it to save in a folder.

That folder will then need to be monitored by an FTP client, every time a new file is saved there, the FTP client uploads it to your webserver, overwriting the old one.

If you want a novel way of doing it,

Start streaming on Twitch or Youtube using a screen share.

Thank you. I can get my head around this. I'm surprised there isn't an Excel plugin for this though.

Could Flow do it in O365?

Suggestions above are possibly a little old-school now...

alternatives:

Using Excel online (microsoft have a web version):
https://www.ablebits.com/office-addins-blog/2014/0...
you can embed an excel web app from excel online
effectively - if stored on OneDrive, you can make it web friendly...

Google Sheets
you can use this to act as the database for a website

MySQL
polished version would be to transfer the excel sheet into MySQL and build a small web app around it - online databases are basically a similar structure to an excel worksheet (columns and rows) and then the code does the interactive bits...

Use Google sheets to make the spreadsheet and set it to publicly viewable but not editable? Then embed that into your website? It's all online already.

If the machine running Excel can reach the web server root on the network then it could be very simple, depending on what the webpage is. A static template that is updated when the cell value changes which is then written out as a .html file is only a few lines of VBA.

If the webpage is more complicated/can't just be overwritten, or you need to FTP the file to the web server, then it's fair to say that there are a hundred ways to skin that particular cat, depending on the exact scenario.

I like the idea of just pointing a camera at your screen and streaming it. Don't point your camera at the live stream though as the feedback will break the internet.

Create a RESTful API on the website, then post to it via a macro in the Excel workbook. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/29015207/vba-p...

Google Sheets has come a long way since I last looked at it. Most of what I need is in there (financial formulae, conditional formatting etc) so this is probably the route I'll go down. Thanks for the suggestions.
