I can't be the only person running into this issue...

I've been keeping tabs on I7 9700 and 8700 to try and buy one off ebay used.

Every single listing is clearly getting shill bidded up by the seller but then if you look at sold listings everything is just getting constantly relisted when its shown as sold.

The amount they are bidding them up to then still not actually selling it is not far off what you can buy it new for, I guess ebay its not worth the hassle and just got buy one new. laugh

The only PC part I've had cause to buy recently was a network card and looking at Ebay, used items were 75% of the cost of a new one and in many cases an older model. It didn't seem worth it to buy a used item at those prices when a new one is a little bit more and comes with a 1-2 year warranty.

99% sure they are not Shill bidders, but people who realized they overpaid and didn't go through with it..
Unless you are buying old PC parts which no1 wants , You are much better off buying new as the prices some dumb people pay for used ones are ridicilous for the decent stuff.
btw a NEW Ryzen of the same power will be 2x cheaper than an used one of those?

I don't know if it's the same now, but every single computer related auction of mine, about 10 of them, got bid up by a new or nearly new account that never paid. Every single one.

Other sellers in the computer section have said the same on Ebay forums. I gave up and only do buy it now for that section now.

Maybe they've managed to squash it and it's actually real people but the MO looks the same as what I experienced.

There is a general shortage of new parts at the moment like graphics cards, CPUs and PSUs.

I just sold a 1080 graphics card for the same as what I paid for it off eBay 2 years ago (and fortunately to a genuine buyer I might add).

The good time to buy something is just after a new version of the product is announced, but before it becomes apparent that none of them will be actually be available.

The shilling is during the bidding, theres always a few people with like 0 or 1 feedback bidding in like small amounts £1-10 fishing for your bidding cap, its clearly not a genuine bidder doing it, you can see the bidding history and its always the same.

My problem is I have a Mobo that will only take up to 9 series intel, I'm on the fence to buy this cpu or just wait and buy a new build 3060ti build. I've got an i5 8400 and 1070ti at the moment.

I had this happen when I was selling some PC parts about 5 years ago. An account that was created minutes before the end would bid. And then I'd get an email fraud alert from Ebay.

That's when I gave Ebay up as a bad job and closed my account.

I was looking at new cards a few weeks ago and couldn't believe what 10xxs were going for on eBay, well I could as I'd read the 3000 series thread on here.

What I noticed was that those card prices aren't being reflected in full machine prices on Gumtree. I think there's good money in buying anything nearby with a good card, selling the card on and selling the PC without a card.

For example at Evga 1080 FTW (8Gb card) can be had for £500, it comes with a good case and PSU, MSI Motherboard, an i7 8600k CPU, watercooler, 16Gb of Corsair 3000 DDR4 RAM, 2 x 120GB SSDs and a 3TB HD. Sell the card for your £400 and it's still a £3-400 machine.

CEX seems to be the best option.

I7 9700 is £190 with a 24 month warranty, they were going for at least that or more on Ebay and obviously without a warranty.

They have some prebuilt PCs with the same 24 month warranty which seem like a pretty good buy as well.

i7-9700K/16GB Ram/2TB HDD+250GB SSD/RTX 2070/W10 for £750 doesn't seem bad at all.

Still unsure now about spending £200 fitting a new i7 or just getting a 10/11th gen intel and 3060ti build though. laugh

The weird thing is it only happens in the computer section and nowhere else, for me at least. And if it's an auction it was 100% guaranteed to happen.

I have absolutely no idea who or why but this has been going on for years now. There must be better hobbies out there and this must take up most of someone's day.

On Ebay have you filtered the results for buy it now only prices?

i7 9700K best new price from Currys PC World Business - £229.63 - https://business.currys.co.uk/catalogue/computing/...

Ebay buy it now best price - £249 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_t...

Go for new if you can buy from them.

I had it happen several times when listing monitors. Why monitors ? I have no idea or what they were hoping to achieve. As you say, it's an odd hobby or thing for people to do.
