Unlikely Live Music Encounters
Discussion
In the early 80s the Clash did some random busking and my mate was lucky enough to see them in a Nottingham shopping street.
When I was a yoof the Police played in our youth club. Then a couple of years later Dire Straits & then Frankie Miller played in our kitchen at Trent. The next month Mud did a Christmas gig in the gym. (and then Wilco Johnson)
I saw U2 supporting Slade somewhere in London. (Discharge were also ahead of U2 on the billing
)
What random unexpected live encounters have you had?

I was having a few beers in a pub called Owd Boots on the road round the back of Vic Centre in Nottingham
it was a Sunday night, towards the end of the night.
3 strangers walked in very noticeable as it was very much a locals city centre pub.
One started drumming on the bar, another started playing a guitar and Jo Strummer started singing.
It was the Clash. My pissed mate asked them to do Johnny Jazz and was told to f
k off.
Can't remember what songs they sang but recall a good time was had by all.

Captain Sensible at the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth sat down cross legged with his guitar, in a field of Donkeys and did some acoustic stuff. (I have photos I will try to find). Most bizarre but cool encounter.
That was NeatNeat Neat
here's a pic of the Dave that I took, to keep you Neat whilst I try and find the CaptainThe Manic Street Preachers in the back room of a terraced house in Coventry in February '91, Nicky Wire through his Rickenbacker bass into the crowd, it bounced off a young lad and was caught by a girl at the back of the crowd. A night that sticks in the mind because me and my Mrs had to dig our '79 Mini Clubman out of the snow before driving home!
In the late 80’s Squeeze used to warm up / practice / play for fun in the Prince of Orange in Rotherhithe. No advertising or promotion in advance, just a band playing a pub that always had live music on. They were always so easy going and relaxed, happy to chat over a pint.
Right, I’m off to find my guitar and see if I can remember how to play Pulling Mussels....

Hawkwind used to regularly play the Beehive, aka the tiny football club house/function room in Bridport before going on tour in the 80s/90s.
I didn't witness this myself but a close friend was a MASSIVE Hawkwind fan and lived in a semi about 500 yards away.
OMG a bunch of us used to drive from Exeter to the rock night at the Beehive regularly. The most unlikely place but it was always great fun I didn't witness this myself but a close friend was a MASSIVE Hawkwind fan and lived in a semi about 500 yards away.

IIRC Hawkwind played there on more than one occasion, they were always popping up in strange (s
t) places around Dorset/Devon. Edited by parakitaMol. on Sunday 24th January 18:23

One of the lads I used to knock about with a bit ended up playing in Squeeze.Right, I’m off to find my guitar and see if I can remember how to play Pulling Mussels....
I bumped into Jimi Hendrix while crossing the foyer at Bedford Granada. It was one of those occasions when you just mutter "Sorry" and carry on which I did, he didn't (say sorry that is).
The date was April 11th 1967, I have a copy of the poster on my wall.
