Hi,

I am after the benefit of experience as I have seen an imported new RHD (from Cyprus) unregistered 718 Spyder that I am interested in buying. I have no previous experience of buying an import and wanted to know whether to steer clear, due to issue with resell/higher depreciation etc... and anything else I should be aware of before potentially buying?? Are there other issues to consider such as difficulties getting the vehicle insured?

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Think insurance is the least of your worries ...does the car exist ..import duties now ..delivery to UK ..parting with cash for unseen goods . registering car with dvla.
not saying seller is in any way dishonest but as they say buyer beware .there are a few around the uk .

You will find plenty online as was a fairly common question a decade ago when there was a disparity in prices

Porsche may not buy it back into their U.K. network when you come to sell

Manufacturers warranty 2 instead of 3 years ?

You would want to buy at a decent discount to a similar spec U.K. car particularly as it will be harder to shift when you come to move it on

Insurers might be sniffy

I think I’d be concerned where the legal title to the car currently rests. Have all import taxes been paid is there evidence it has now been registered in the U.K. or are you asked to pay a deposit and they will then register in U.K.? Who is selling the car ? Do they legally own the car or selling on behalf of someone who still has legal title in Cyprus. If it’s currently unregistered in U.K. be careful.

They seem like a reputable dealer, I would ask if it’s there stock or sale or return.

There selling it on behalf of one of their clients, it’s clearly being flipped!

think it is at a healthy discount.90k car for 85k and you'd beat the waiting time. I wouldn't care as the warranty would still be honoured by OPC

As the U.K. has now left the EU and this car has not yet been registered I would want to check with Porsche U.K. re the warranty. Before 31 Dec pan EU warranty conditions would apply backed by EU law. Post 1 Jan this car may now be classed as a grey import. Different laws and potentially warranty cover. This may also have a big impact on insurance costs
