With sky q, I take it you need to pay for the multiroom extra?

We enquired about the basic package I dont think multi room was in the price were willing to pay. At the minute we use a magic eye via coax to tv in bedroom from sky+ box

This worked fine for us..

is this something i will be able to do with the very basic Sky Q box?
Or have they been crafty and stopped the outputs to stop this?

Thanks

No RF output on Sky Q, so it won't work. I would just stick with the HD box, Q offers no real advantage unless you want 4K and are going to have extra mini boxes (multi-room).

Yes the Q Mini boxes cost extra per month.

Q is a huge upgrade on the old boxes. 2tb HD. Record 6 channels whilst watching a 7th. Voice search. Bluetooth remote rather than line of sight, so you can hide the boxes away. You can access anything on the mini boxes as per the main one. Boxes are also a lot smaller. Stop a show on one box and then resume from the same place on another. Lost controller finder etc. The mini boxes connect via WiFi or ethernet.

Still worth getting the Q box if you can haggle a price.

You know you can use the SKY GO app on a mobile device to cast your SKY box to a Smart TV?

You can't cast Sky Go to a smart TV - get a message saying external device blocked.

Just tried it.

maybe possible of diff versions etc but pretty sure it's not worked for a while - certainly used to work about 5 years ago.
I thought you could only do it from the HDMI out of a laptop.

One option is to use a HD RF modulator, connect this to the HDMI of the Sky Q, then up the existing coax cable to your bedroom TV, you set a channel for the TV to tune into, say 401. IR works down the cable to the Sky Q box.

Give them a call and see what price they come up with. We have had Sky hd for years and I was reluctant to change contract as we had Sky F1 included in the old hd contract. I ended up with Sky Q, a mini box, same channels as before plus the full Sky Sports package, all for about a fiver more than hd. In fact it ended up as a saving as Sky own the Q box, and mini box, so I cancelled the Sky Protect cover as it isn't needed now.

Just upgraded to SKY Q, they are a bunch of robbers! My monthly fee is £45 a month and they increased my fee to £75 as 18 month offer was up. I have been with SKY for 17 years, HD, SKY atlantic, sports etc.

Rang up and yop offered me £61, said i want to cancel and got put through to someone i can understand in retention dept, offer me £45 a month and that includes upgrade to SKY Q. Did have to pay £29 install fee.

Happy days, don’t let them rip you off!

You do have to recontact them after each contract expires.
Mine jumped from £54/month to £80 when it expired. I called them (no online chat currently) and they reduced it to £53. All very easy.

But you really shouldn't have to do this every time. Mobile and energy companies have (sort of) been dragged into line to not do this, about time Sky were too. I had to do this last year and ended up with Netflix included for 1p more than before, without the call, it would have gone up almost £25 IIRC.

I've recently gone from Sky HD to Q and I'm paying £39pm. Not interested in all the footy crap, as long as I still get the F1 I'm reasonably happy.

The Sky Q box software is awful though. So complicated just to watch a bit of telly! Drives my wife and I mad, such a faff.

It also keeps dropping wifi connection - always bombproof prior, 150mb download for last 6 years. Then having to manually re enter my wifi password with a crappy menu was very tedious. In the end connected by cat 6 cable to resolve.

Why on earth anybody would need to record 6 programmes at the same time is beyond me - it's hard enough to find one programme at a time to record, lol.

My HD+ box with multi room packed up so I phoned up in some trepidation as to what they might do to my wallet and it all went very smoothly for no (extra) charge. Same channels, including F1 of course. The young lady installer also changed the lnb in the sky dish - after drilling a hole in my outside wall for her ladder safety tie irked

Very handy having everything running off the main box for recordings and the mini box on wifi links well.
Took a while to get used to the menus though. documentation was nonexistent and the help video didn't even start to cover most of the features.

'Er indoors soon mastered the bits she wanted and is now filling the drive with all sorts of unwatchable dross. Sigh.

Yeah, the 'engineer' drilled a hole in our wall to secure his ladder. The dish is about 8ft off the ground at the end of our bungalow.

And people are climbing Everest and surviving, lol.

H&S at its best, are you telling me they will drill a hole in my wall to change wires in a dish 8ft height. They better not go near the cables in my lounge as I have just laid a new oak floor and the cables are under the skirting boards !

I suppose it's because they work on their own with no one to foot the ladder. When I think of some of the stuff we used to do when I was a roofer thoughlaugh
