Can you have 2 different no claims discounts?
Discussion
My father passed away mid way through an active insurance policy, I inherited his car and the insures transferred the policy to me
including the maximum no claims discount he had (that bit kind of surprised me)
I had my own car at the time also with maximum no claims but sold the car and cancelled the insurance, this was about 12 months ago.
The car I inherited is ongoing under my name.
My question is could I go get a 2nd car and insure it with full no claims using proof of my own original insurance history
I believe it normally lasts 2 years.

You can insure a second car with your own NCB if its under 2 years, however you will probably find that your fathers transfer is just done as part of their bereavement process and when it comes to renewal they'll expect you to insure fully in your name and take the NCB away.
Just been through this myself with my mum's car and that's what happened to me.

I should have said I have since reinsured his old car with a different company, I just picked I had 9 years no claims (all done online)
wasn't asked to provide any proof, the letter from his original insurance company didn't give any conditions.
I am expecting to set off a big alarm when I try to insure another car stating full no claims

So all youve done is transfer your no claims to your dads car. Nothing wrong with that, but you can't apply it to a second vehicle, if you do and you have a claim youll be in a whole world of painwasn't asked to provide any proof, the letter from his original insurance company didn't give any conditions.

You can have more than one no claims bonus. I have 2 sets of full no claims, one on each car. It makes very little difference to the cost of my policies though. I have tried multi car policies and mirroring no claims and there was very little difference in costs. I am over 50 though so that may make a difference.
It appears, that as you inherited your dad's ncb and have now moved it to a different insurer, and your own ncb is not being used but is less than 2 years old, you do indeed have 2 lots of max ncb you can use on 2 different policies. You won't have to bother finding an insurer that mirrors your bonus or any of that stuff.
